Well I'm done putting the kit together. Now it's time to fix it. The body sits too high and the wheelbase is off. This model (MPC Donnie Allison Cyclone) sucks! While building I had to fix the roll cage, dash, and the inner body panels.
The PowerSlide decals from Mike's were great.
Sorry James Hylton, I did my best!

If you build another 71 Mercury trying using the Polar Lights Torino/ Cyclone chassis under it! I'm building Waltrips 72 the guy's over on MCM gave me that suggestion and it fits great, lowers the car a lot!! Hope this may be of help! That aside it looks great, what a shine!! |

Wild Bill - You've come too far to let the wheels issue ruin it for you on an otherwise fantastic job! I would totally snip/crack/saw those off, and do some grinding/reducing on the backsides of the wheels and outside of the spindles/axles and do what ever to get the location correct.
I rebuilt my old MPC Donnie kit, from 1973, as James' car. MPC chassis. It was a chore to get the PPP wheels to fit, but I always prioritize wheel/tire fitment. I don't care what Frankenstein work goes on where it will never be seen.

Looks great , Wild Bill. Just needs a little adjustment to the wheels and tires like Firefly Bill said. Hackem till they fit under the fenders and then glue them in place. Those babys dont need to roll. None of my models have rolling wheels. If they did all my builds would look like off road vehicles. |

Thanks! I'll do some rework to make it right. It just ticks me off that you pay good money for these kits and some are crap! _________________

I agree with you on the kits. Its just poor engineering . They could get it right if they wanted to and we wouldnt have to fix the stance on just about every kit out there. |

Fun Fact!: This James Hylton car was originally the actual Donnie Allison Wood Brothers Cyclone!
When James needed to replace a banged up fender, he was perplexed that his replacement piece would not fit. The Wood Brothers magic mystified him. (If you look at pictures of the later gold-painted scheme, notice how much closer to factory the front fenders look.)
So, like James, you'll somehow need to make this Allison car work! _________________ Bill Jobson is my real name. |

You have to remember, these kits, when new in the 1970's , fit much better. They also had more roll cage, and deeper dish H/M rims. While the chassis was never correct for a Mopar, it was nowhere as bad on fit and assembly back then.
Beginning with the Isaac Torino and Yarborough Kar-Kare Chevelle, they added a complete second roll cage that did not have the window net . The chassis was first really changed with the Cannonball Run Chevelle, They removed about all of the original cage and modified what was left to fit two seats in it. When they became the Southern Stockers (Buick, Pontiac, Monte Carlo) the chassis was further modified to make the track width wider and I suspect the firewall was tampered with too to fit those 1980's bodies. When Model King did a run they fixed some of those issues. Round 2 has made a few fixes also since they have re-run them in the last few years. BUT...they will never be what they were when new. Most of the original roll cage is missing, what's left is really rough especially on the A-pillars, they don't line up with the body at all. You really have to do some shaving and cutting to get the front wheels under the fenders. |

Those original issue HM style rims were the most accurate 1:25 wheels of that style. The outstanding PPP wheels are a tad larger. _________________ Bill Jobson is my real name. |
