Actor Ned Beatty has passed away. Perhaps best known here for his role as Clyde Torkle in the Burt Reynolds / Hal Needham movie Stroker Ace, which was also the public debut of the 1983 Ford " Aero " Thunderbird .
In his book I was A NASCAR Redneck, author & mechanic Will Cronkrite devotes 3 chapters to his work on the various Stroker Ace movie cars, and the " Hollywood Stunt Drivers " who wreck one of the Aero Birds, at a time when when only 5 complete cars had been built by Ford. The book, available through Coastal 181, is an interesting read.
