This is the special paint scheme that was on the #2 Miller Lite ford Taurus
for 3 races in 1999 and it simulates the car driven by Rusty Wallace at
Michigan.
The kit was a 1998-99 RM Taurus (Cheerios) with decals by "Just want to
build a model".
Paint and Decals:
I used standard grey for the interior and chassis. The exterior was done
using the following process. First I primed the body with testors flat
white from a can which I sanded lightly. I then waited approx. 1 hour and
airbrushed the entire exterior with testors model master steel. Within
about an hour I then airbrushed the first coat of the final blue metallic
color. The color I used is a mixture of model master olds engine blue and
several drops of standard black which darkened the blue. This blue was
almost transparent and that's why I applied the steel as a base. I also
applied the blue in 3 coats about 5-10 min. apart because of this
transparency to build it up. After about 2 days of drying I applied the
decals. I started with the roof number the trunk and hood decals, then
the
fender decals and the door number/silver bar decals. I then applied the
rear quarter Miller Lite, LENNOX and HD logos. I then applied the rear TV
panel and bumper decals followed by the headlights, grilles and TAURUS
decals. Note:Almost forgot about the airdam extension! I made this from
.020 sheet styrene approx. 3/16 inch wide. It is the first time I have
modified this on a Taurus. I "painted" the black on the airdam extension
with a Marks-a-lot black marker as well as the skirts (After decaling and
gloss coating the body!) I didn't have to mask the extension but I did mask
the skirts. Basically that's it! Hope you enjoy it!
