Bill Elliott's 1997 Mac Tonight Ford Thunderbird

This is the #94 Mac Tonight T-Bird driven by "Awesome"Bill Elliot in 1997!

The kit is a 1996-97 Revell-Monogram T-Bird with decals from Sunset Graphics by way of BSR! As usual with all of my 1996-97 T-Bird models this one has modifications to the body in the form of slab sides, skirts and jack posts along with front airdam extent ... which I was going to leave off but decided later to add (the nose just wasn't low enough!) ... In a way it made it better because I had to apply a decal over the new extent and it made it look like a real one! (Looks like tape has been applied over the extent!) Also as with all my 1996-97 T-Birds the exhausts are home made to reach the outside of the slab!

Painting and Decals:

The chassis and body interior are bright red (1 part orange to 1 part red) I had painted this body to be done as a regular #94 but decided since I had the decals and the Mac Tonight car I would repaint the exterior dark blue (slightly metallic). Once the blue was dry I applied the decals. I started by using some yellow microscale decal sheet stock for the lower body band (red stripes were included on the sheet) and once these were dry I applied the red separator stripes I then applied the rest of the decals (really had a time getting the hood decal to lay down (it is also slightly oversize... the hood decal on the #3 plus car was slightly under but that's what you get sometimes with these decals (it's no big deal though!) But with a little patience and effort I got it looking pretty good! Also the #'s were a little bit thin which allowed the blue to darken them and add a slight greenish tinge but once again nothing serious! Once the decals were dry I applied the usual coat of testors high-gloss clear enamel and set the body aside to dry! I now went to work masking and painting the clear parts and applying the wheel and tire decals and painting the center caps! When the body was well dried (2-3 days) I mounted it to the chassis. I then glues the clear parts on the body with clear craft glue and applied hood and trunk retaining pin decals from a 1997 NASCAR goodies sheet from slixx! So there you have it, my rendition of the Mac Tonight T-Bird!
