This is the #43 car driven by Bobby Hamilton in the 1996 Daytona 500
commemorating the 25th anniversary of Richard Petty's association with STP!
The kit is a 1996 Monogram Grand Prix. The decals are from slixx.
Once again this is a sheet that contains decals in florescent colors ...
the red stripes and numbers ... so once again be careful with them to avoid
cracking!!! Since this is a 1996 Grand Prix kit there are no
modifications necessary for the body to be correct as the proper additions
of slab sides, jack posts and skirts were added to the molds on this kit!
Painting and Decals:
The chassis and body interior are standard light grey. The exterior
was first sprayed with Testors silver metallic and this was in turn
overcoated with testors high-gloss enamel. When the clear coat was dry I
masked the areas to be painted petty blue and painted them with True Match
#43 Petty Blue! Be careful if you use tape to mask over the clear coated
silver! The clear coat pull off if you do not take care pulling it
off!!! (I had a couple very small areas where this occurred...this was
before I discovered Micro Mask form Microscale!). Once the paint was dry I
applied the decals ... all stripes first remembering that they are
florescent and need extra care when applying to avoid cracking... then when
the stripes were dry I applied the rest of the decals and overcoated it all
with a last coat of high-gloss clear enamel! The rest is basically the
same as for all of these models: Mask and paint the clear parts, when
throughly dry mount the body on the chassis, apply the wheel and tire
decals, paint the center caps, glue on the clear parts with clear craft
glue and glue the hood and trunk retaining pins on also with clear craft
glue!

parts, and construction of slab sides can be found at the bottom of the main page!
