this looks like a fun scheme. this car was from the 1998 daytona 500, I think the car raced with black door numbers. but I'm just using the kit decals and they are white like the picture on the box.

the build will be box stock other than a few details on the interior.

got the tires done, the sticker is from an older AMT decal sheet. and slixx goodyears

Nice tires,

Just a heads up the door numbers were black on the actual racecar.

got the chassis painted grey. roll bar padding etc. I cleared over everything and will go back and repaint the roll bar padding again when I'm finished so its flat. this way the black paint wont rub off while I'm handling it and stuff.

I also just noticed I forgot to paint one of the roll bar padding! lol Laughing

I painted the fan belts. keep in mind I'm doing the engine box stock so no wires or aftermarket parts, just paint details.

This is really neat stuff! I especially like the sippy bottle detail, the gauge panel, and the crush panels, not to mention the amazing and very convincing weathering.

Question: what orange did you use for the wheels?

It looks spot on. Looking at the pictures, I could not determine whether it was a fluorescent color or just a bright orange. I have this kit and the regular 1997 scheme cars out as donors and have been debating whether I would want to build either of these.

Not only an impressive build, but really great weathering. Can't wait to see the finished product.

time for some body work.

I thinned out all the edges of the body even in the engine compartment.
still a lot of sanding to do but its getting there and I think I will leave the molded in fuel filler just because the way the decal is cut out to fit around it.

also I had a Photo-etch grill set so I plan to use on this car.

more stuff added in

I soldered together a hood pin bar. I will simply epoxy it to the under side of the body. much easier than building the entire front end bars
