I am trying to detail some torq thrust wheels I want to keep the chrome finish on the outer rim but paint the spokes a proper flat gray. I know I could dip the whole thing and strip it in Ammonia and use silver paint and flat colors but the silver doesn't look like chrome. Any tips or trick to actually paint a chrome surface ?

I didn't do anything special, just used a #0 brush to paint the spokes and let the paint flow to the edges of the rim.

On mine, I've shot a light dusting of flat clear on the whole rim from a decent distance, making sure I got coverage. Then after drying for a day or so, I taped the rims down tight on a box lid and used a fine brush and CAREFULLY painted the spokes. I didn't handle them much afterwards, as prolonged handling tends to wear thru the flat clear on the edge of the rim. I worked quick on painting the spokes, as to keep going over and over where you painted leaves brush marks in the paint. Hope this helps.
