It has been 25 years since Dale won the Daytona 500. Been there and saw
my first race in person in Daytona. As a homage I wanted to built a Monte
Carlo as raced in Daytona which I wanted to built as a Slotcar (I usually
built detailed kits for display only but not this time) to race on Carrera tracks.
The plan was to get this done this year, so i collected all the tracks
to build a small Daytona Track and get the car to race. I used one of those
kits that came in a tin from Revell. Sure enough when I was ready to apply
the decals, they fell apart. So I had to get a new set of decals. I also got in
contact with a stencil seller to have tire letter stencils made for it. The car
sits on a Sakatsu chassis, Revell Kit, Driver figure comes from the
Monogram Lumina kit. Raced it a few weeks ago and it was pure fun. Pure
memories.

Model Kit: Revell 85-4137
Rear Side Windows: Revell 85-2483
Chassis: Sakatsu 90951
Tires: Ortmann Number 1, 17x28.5
Rims: Ortmann Aluminum 22998
Wheel Inserts: Revell 85-4137
Tire Stencil: Mbm Munich, 20,7 mm
Driver Figure: from Monogram 2927
Decals: Mike's Decals winning 1998 Daytona 500 Earnhardt Monte Carlo
Photoetched parts
Paint: Automotive 2k, Clear Coated decals (2k as well)

Photo above painted tires using the new stencil which is the current and final look for the tires

1/24 slot cars? Always something to learn. I bet that's fun. And a smart #3 build.

Your cars can race close enough to cause tyre rubs? Have seen this on a member's r/c 1/24 nascar, totally realistic, looks great.

1/24 scale slotcars have been around for a long time. Wink If they run side to side on the track there will be no contact, no tire rubs, no paint exchange only if they happen to slide in the corners, the inner car could possibly hit the car on the outside track going side by side.

Hey Where did you get that template from? I've checked their site and they don't have the one with #1.

I have all of the other Good Year templates but would love to get my hands on that one.

Got it from them. I posted another topic in the tips section
and explained how this template made it to life. The template I have is the first
proto or one of them. They will go into production soon. It is also being looked
at again for more detail. It will make it to market so other model builders can get
one.

Explained it here: http://randyayersmodeling.com/modelingforum/viewtopic.php?t=6594

Okay I had requested this from them over a year ago and he said that he wouldn't be producing it, but hopefully it will be available soon! Smile

Yes it will be available "soon". Had asked him to place a link, pre-order or coming soon page for everybody interested. If allowed on here I will post it.
Just happy these will be made for everybody and helped me out so much with my build. Seller is a great guy. I never liked tire decals, glad I came across his page.

Because that's the way Dale crossed the finish line. Taken from reference pics.
He crossed the line with one of Skinners rims/tires. Left rear even has the 31 sticker on the rim.

Just got a message, it is in production now. Seller tweaked it a bit more. Can be found as Template 10 on his page now.

Very fine work on your Earnhardt build. Have you ever broken a body racing on that fine looking track you have created? Looks like a whole bunch of fun.
