Did this replica of ASA star back in the day Butch Miller. Used the ASA kit and lowered the stance and did some modifications to the body. Thanks for looking!

Nice build. I wish that kit would be re-released.

Very sharp looking build!!!!
A Question. Were the wide 5's harder or easier to change during the races?

My Uncle ran at the Mn state fair when they ran 5 days, and his plan was first race stickiest tires he could get. Those were Goodyears. Next plan something middle ground of stick and wear, enter Hoosier. The 300 plan, hardest compound they could find. Enter McCreary.

Truly stunk when they closed that track. Ton of memories and watching the Greats as they worked their way up.

The wide-5's weren't any harder to change quickly IF you had "baskets" over the hubs. The baskets were basically bowls with weight saving cuts that were bolted on and centered the wide-5's just like the hub itself does on a 5X5 wheel. They were a necessity if you were doing pit stops but a lot of people running wide 5's would yank them off for rotational weight-saving if it was just a 30- 40 lap feature at a local track. Personally, we never removed the baskets as it didn't seem to matter. They were anodized aluminum and quite light.

Edited to add:
That was 25 years ago and while a few of the wide-5 set-ups back then had enough of a shoulder built into the wheel center below the lugs to catch the lug flanges to facilitate centering the wheel, I believe that is a standard feature on them now. I looked for a picture of a basket to illustrate what they looked like and all I could find were tons of wide-5's that don't need them!

Wow - stunning build! Compared to the 'actual' photo, it's even better than the real thing!

Beautiful build. We owned a gen 3 Camaro Z28 in 1984. I remember it as a real dog because of the 305 v8 that was tuned for pollution controls. We bought those aluminum louvers for the back glass to protect the trunk area carpet which turned the car into a major rattle trap. Not a lot of fond memories about that car, but it really looked good.
