DK: And the question on everyone's mind is who will rise up and become the 2023 Fantasy Cup Series champion? Hello and welcome to the North Wilkesboro Speedway for the final race of the season; the Goody's 300. I'm Dave Knight and joining me as always, NASCAR legend Darrell Waltrip. Sheldon Hatterfield has a 5 point advantage over Linda Lou Godlewski going into today's event. Tim Wallace, defending 2-time series champion, trails the leader by 11 points meaning he would have to win and hope Hatterfield finishes dead last and Godlewski finishes 3rd or worse.
DW: Dave, as consistant as the 17's been, that's gonna be a tall order. He's got 2 wins and hasn't finished worse than 6th. But Linda could win the race which would force him to have to finish 2nd to tie.
DK: And of course, by virtue of those 2 wins, Sheldon Hatterfield would receive the tie breaker. Also, the 46 of JR Sealey has received 5 bonus points for the best looking car fan vote. That moves him up to 4th in the standings. And now, we go trackside for the opening ceremony.
"Ladies and gentlemen, please rise and remove your hats as the Army Field Band Brass Quintet performs our national anthem."

"And now, race fans, with the most famous words in motorsports, please welcome our grand marshal, 2-time NASCAR champion and 4-time winner at North Wilkesboro, Terry Labonte.
TL: Drivers, start your engines!
Green Flag
DW: Boogity boogity boogity! Let's go racin' for the championship!
DK: Tim Wallace throws the Hooters Ford to the inside into turn 1. JR Sealey stacks up the field a bit. Might have missed a shift. Ken Wallace shadowing his brother's line as they come out of turn 2 and up the back straightaway. Uphill as they head towards turn 3. Sealey riding the high line allowing Amy Hilton to sail past flanked by the Uno Chevy of Loggins. Tim Wallace comes off of turn 4 to lead the first of 300 laps at Wilkesboro.
Lap 50
DW: Wild Bill just picked off another spot and works his way up to 4th.
DK: And Ken Wallace just flirted a little to much with the fence in turn 3. He's a little sideways and slows a bit but straightens out.
Lap 87
DK: Sheldon Hatterfield has had a tough time this afternoon. He's only now been able to break the top 5 from his 8th place starting position.
Lap 103
DK: Bill Godlewski just got a huge run on Ken Wallace and he's going to muscle his way past him to take over 2nd.
Lap 137
DK: Whoa, we've got a spinner in turn 2! Ken Wallace has apparently had a right rear tire down and loops it around and limps down the back stretch onto pit road. The yellow is out and Sheldon Hatterfield had just passed Linda Lou Godlewski and now runs in 4th.
Lap 199
DW: Oh no no no! Sheldon Hatterfield's in the wall!
DK: Linda Lou Godlewski was running 4th and got caught up behind the 23 of Keith Wallace who is 3 laps down. He's been slow for most of the race and Hatterfield skidded to avoid Godlewski and ran out of real estate.
Lap 258
DK: Bill Godlewski takes the lead at the line! He's been working Tim Wallace's rear bumper for most of this event but finally got the run he needed. Also, we see Sheldon Hatterfield limping back out on the track. All he can do now is hope that Linda Lou Godlewski finishes 4th or worse.
White Flag
DK: One lap to go in the 2023 season. Wild Bill Godlewski leads Tim Wallace into turns 1 and 2. Meanwhile Lee Loggins in 3rd is flanked by a very hungry Linda Lou Godlewski. One more position might be the championship.
DW: Wild Bill has a good advantage over the 11 and he's not letting up a bit.
DK: He'll pile that Chevrolet through turns 3 and 4 for the final time. Coming to the line, Bill Godlewski wins at North Wilkesboro! And Linda Lou makes a try for Lee Loggins out of turn 4. Not going to be enough. Sheldon Hatterfield in that battered Ford wins the 2023 Fantasy Cup Series Championship!
DW: Wow! One spot for either her or Tim Wallace would've made all the difference but it wasn't to be.
1. 72 - Bill Godlewski
2. 11 - Tim Wallace
3. 04 - Lee Loggins
4. 56 - Linda Lou Godlewski
5. 46 - JR Sealey
6. 3 - Amy Hilton
7. 26 - Ken Wallace (-2)
8. 23 - Keith Wallace (-4)
9. 17 - Sheldon Hatterfield (-59)
DK: Bill Godlewski wins the battle and Sheldon Hatterfield wins the war despite the incident on lap 199. What an exciting season.
DW: I don't think my heart rate's gonna drop until next March after that!
DK: And with that, another year is in the books. For Darrell Waltrip, I'm Dave Knight. Thanks so much for joining us this season and we look forward to seeing you next year.
