What carb did they use for the single 4 BBl 427 for Nascar?

The dual 4 bbl used the square bowl 600 cfrm.

I am thinking they used the ones that had the nose on each end.

I don't think the cathedral ones had been invented yet.

You're right Len. The Holley with the center pivot first design, often called LeMan's float bowls. Fireball Modelworks has one, the Holley 3259 which was the same in outward appearance as the correct NASCAR Holley of the day.

Thanks so much Bill. I will get on the Firebird site and get some ordered.

I just ran across this picture after I remembered it was called center pivot.

Thanks bill. Just a typo. BTW the 66 Monogram 427 Cobra SC has them too.

Len here is a pic of a Stroppe Merc engine

And Fireball's Holley is 100% accurate, the Monogram Cobra carb is a plastic blob in comparison.

Thanks Bill. I looked all over for the 64 engine with the air cleaner off and couldn't find it. Thanks for posting.

Do you know if they used the deeper oil pans for these cars?

Pretty certain they did use the deeper pan. I think all the engines still came from H-M and were the same. In 64 they still had the cast iron factory 427 headers also.

Thanks I am using the engine/chassis from the 60 Ford Starliner. I have a resin cast deep pan from a funny car kit that fits perfect.

Did they box the gas tanks in for 64?

Were they still under the car or put into the trunk?

I think the fuel started in 65?

The gas tank to fuel cell requirement went into effect in 1965 based on the Charlotte 600 crash fire. They also banned the running of exhaust pipes through the frame for 65. They also made it mandatory, I believe, that the fuel filler be on the quarter panel, no longer allowed on the rear of the car.

The 64 Stroppe Mercury running in 64 would have had a regular boxed and strapped fuel tank and the exhaust routed through the frame rails.

I having a hard time determining if the Stroppe 64 Mercury or any 64 Fords ran the Lincoln Finned Drums. I looked at 2 of the Dr Craft books that show both the finned & non-finned drums but it is not clear what year they are.

I think the Testors Lacquer lines has the colors you need. Poppy Red, Guardsman Blue and any white should do.

Hey Guys;

Just a heads-up, Bill Hasselle Jr's (slidinsideways) excellent thread on building the '62-'64 H/M Rollcage has now been completely restored and actually expanded. Though the title doesn't say, it includes photos and discussion about the similarites and differences between the Holman-Moody and Bill Stroppe chassis. Lots of great photos.

Gee its good to be back!

Jerry
