Anyone have an efficient way to remove Salvinos chrome from surfaces which need to be glued together?

It's real chrome so it's not going to budge

A process that would remove it may destroy the plastic.

One of the poorest model company decisions ever, IMO. Adults have much difficulty dealing with it, as many of us would rather strip it and paint more authentic colors. Most kids probably don't have the skills to use the glues that will make the parts stay put, like superglue or epoxy. Marketing department in charge, maybe?

Got lucky with a recent Salvino's Cale 1977 kit.
The chrome on both bumpers was starting to peel, I was able to put an X-Acto blade under it and pry all the chrome off both the front and rear bumper.

I've used good hard files to rough up the surface hoping the super glue will work. Tried gritty sandpaper too but that chrome is tough.

Don't understand why Salvino's went this way with the chrome.

I spoke with Rick on Facebook last week and he seems to think that everyone wants real chrome and I tried to assure him that's not the case..
