Lacquer? Enamel? Acrylic?
I would use the applicable type of thinner and rub the model down with it. _________________ ON DECK/IN THE WORKS: too many started to list...

If it is Lacquer or Urethane you will need 91% alcohol.
If it is Enamel & most primers you will need Purple Power/ Castrol Super clean. |

For automotive paints it works well
caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) take care with the skin..
or brake fluid,no damage for the plastic with that two products,
for acrylic paints,never tried |
