Bill Elliott Thunderbird Monogram. Was a pretty fun build for the most part. For me this car had to have the "shiny" gold wheels. That was always my favorite part about this car. I sprayed them with very light coats of Alclad Transparent Yellow. It took me several times to get this right as if you spray too much, the wheels are too "gold".
Filled in the front fenders and sanded off the side trim. Aftermarket fuel filler, distributor, dash, and hoodpin kit. I made the window net from Tamiya tape. Made new rear window "straps" and added aftermarket rivets to the front windshield clips, rear window straps and the rear spoiler. Made new headers from aluminum tubing,
TS-8 Italian Red, TS-26 Pure White over Tamiya white primer, and Tamiya clear. Polished a little with Novus polish. Really like that stuff.
I know there are debates at times about should the window net should be up or down on builds but I felt like the car looked better with it up after experimenting with both. Thanks for looking.

Wow, this is a beautiful build. This must be a challenging paint job and you hit it out the park.
The detailing adds so much realism. The back window straps are very nice and look to scale.
May I ask what brand you are using for the distributor? So nice.

That wheel treatment is awesome looking. You nailed that.
Also curious about the distributor you used. Looks great! |

Beautiful car in every way. Please give a brief review of how you flatten out the sides and the materials you use. Thank you for posting this excellent build. |

I used decals from a sheet. Used Future floor polish over the tire, applied the decal, then sprayed flat acrylic over the tire/decal. I then weathered the tire and decal. _________________ |

the build is phenomenal. Would you mind sharing details on how you "weather" the tire? |

Thanks!
I do like most and sand the tires down. Once I do that I clean the tires with Lacquer Thinner. After that I use Future floor polish to coat the tire for the decals. Apply the decals (I use Micro Sol/Set) and give them time to dry. I spay a dullcoat on the tire to get rid of the gloss.
I use a Tamiya weathering kit on my tires (oil stain) to dull out the good year on the tires. It takes a few times on the weathering part to get it right because you don't want to over do it. I guess it just depends on the look your going for.
I don't like too dirty but I like it as pictured above with a little "wear" _________________ |

Love it! The paint work is superb, and the final finish is brilliant - I can't make out the outline of the decals even with your close up shots. Thanks for sharing the paint and primer you used, that is a big help for planning future builds! |
