I just bought a lot of 5 GM Goodwrench Luminas from eBay for a great price and would like any tips and tricks to building these.
I've build about 7 models now.. mostly Tamiya race cars but never a Nascar. The Revell/Monogram kits seem to be a bit more tricky than the Tamiya kits which are almost too easy.
I'm really hoping to build most of the chassis and suspension before paint as I've had problems with fit and glue adhesion with Revell kits before that were painted. I'm hoping you all have tips on what to build and paint together and any other trick that will help and improve the build. |

What I ended up doing is building up the model with tape and blue tack like Oleg does below when he builds a model. This was a game changer for me as I'm able to see how to best glue and paint the model for the best results.
This monogram kit is very well made. Everything seems to fit together well.
What are some of your favorite aftermarket decal sheets for these 1990 Monogram Luminas?

Since those kits are molded in black, I save a lot of time and paint by masking off the roll cage padding. |

Good tip.. I didn't even think about that. They did a good job molding the padding too.

Well, it seems I stumbled onto randyayersmodeling.com instead of the forum and Randy has some great tips and tricks there. Unfortunately many of the links are missing or gone and the code is a little messed up so the text keeps getting bigger and bigger and hard to read.
BTW, does Randy Ayers still post here and own the forum?
Also, I found this very helpful video that may help some other newbs that stubble across this thread.

Be patient with the front end and rear bumper. The fitment is trash as they are molded. Be prepared to sand, then puddy, spray light coat of Tamiya grey primer, then puddy, sand, hit with primer, Over and over. They can look great but takes work |

I saw a vid from 1990 where a guy from Monogram said they made the kits based off of Earnhardt's Lumina. Always had good results with them.
And I'm actually from NC. |
