Would an early season (before the Daytona's raced at Talledega) '69 Charger 500 have the A-pillar deflectors or did they show up on the 500s only after they appeared on the Daytona's. Guess what I'm asking is if the deflectors were a part of the 500 "package".

I am no Mopar expert but if I remember right the air deflectors were on the pointy nose Daytona's and not the Charger 500's. Some one knows more than I, I'm sure of that Smile

Now where is Aero426 when you need him. He would definitely know the history of the window deflectors.

The A - Pillar deflectors were part of both the Charger 500 and Charger Daytona package, as well as the Plymouth SuperBird. Oddly enough though, they were missing on the record - setting K & K Charger Daytona that Harry Hyde & Bobby Isaac ran at Bonneville in 1971. Maybe the Robert Gee - massaged body didn't need it ?!? The "A" pillar trim was on all street & race Charger 500s.
Same pieces on all Daytonas.

Similar pieces on all SuperBirds.

The K&K used at Bonneville had the "A" pillar area even more flushed out.
Same car was also used for the 201 run at Talladega in November, 1970.
At that time, the "A" pillars were already massaged and the drip rails on the roof were already missing. They also ran 2 - 4 barrel Holleys, inline.
Apparently, Nascar was looking the other way!

Good info here, including pics of the dual quads on the K&K for the 201 run.

Thanks guys, after I posted the question I found a good example of a '69 speedway 500 that's the box art photo of Isaac and the #71 car on the Univ. of Racing diecast, probably at Daytona in '69. It has them and that's the car I'm shooting for.

Thanks Greg, even better, as the build I'm completing is more of a '69 version of the "Lowrider" from '70. Just wish I'd addressed these BEFORE I completed the model. On a previous K&K car I did them with Bare Metal Foil afterward but even that needs some smoothing on the windshield trim and A-pillar.
