DK: To survive is what winners do. To rise in the face of adversity and overcome the obstacles ahead is the way of a champion. Hello again, everyone. I'm Dave Knight alongside a man who certainly knows how to do so, Darrell Waltrip. Welcome to the Dover International Speedway for the final race of the 2021 Fantasy Cup season, the Busch 300. DW, the stage is set, the cars are ready, and the top 2 positions in points are tied. What can we expect to see out there.
DW: Well, Dave, the top 2 drivers are a fiery rookie and a crafty veteran each with 2 wins this season. Tim Wallace in that 11 car has a slight edge over Lee "Spud" Loggins with a 2nd place finish earlier in the season but that all goes out the window today. And oh by the way, these guys have go another thing they have to look out for. Namely, the 88 team of Amy "Hollywood" Hilton who won the fan vote for best looking car. That puts her 7 points behind the leaders so not only could she sneak out with a win, she's a championship contender.
DK: Amy Hilton starts on the outside pole for today's event. Can she bring the Busch Chevrolet to victory lane? We'll find out in 300 miles. Let's go trackside for the opening ceremony.
Ladies and gentlemen, plaese rise and remove your hats as the United States Field Band and Soldiers' Chorus perform our national anthem.

And now, race fans, for the most famous words in motorsports, please welcom our grand marshal, 7-time Dover winner Bobby Allison.
BA: Lady and gentlemen, start your engines!
Green Flag
DW: Boogity boogity boogity! Let's go racin' for a championship!
DK: "Wild Bill" Godlewski with a good start as the green flag flies. Amy Hilton a little slow and the 71 of her teammate Hick Strutlin will have no trouble getting by her on the inside of turn 2. Godlewski with a sizeable advantage. He leads the pack into turn 3.
DW: You know who else got a great start? The 11 of Tim Wallace. He jumped up to 5th during that log jam in the first 2 turns.
DK: And out of turn 4, Bill Godlewski will lead the opening lap here at Dover!
Lap 50
DW: Dave: I can't believe how well that 71's been reelin' Wild Bill in.
DK: And Strutlin makes a move to the inside. Completes the pass with ease. Hick Strutlin leading here at Dover!
Lap 81
DK: Coming up on green flag pit stops. The leader Hick Strutlin pulls the 71 Ford into his stall. He's gonna get 4 fresh Goodyears and fuel. Bill Godlewski seems to be doing the same. And there's a problem on pit road! Lee Loggins slides through his pit stall and knocks the 72 off the jack! That's gonna cost that team a TON of time. The 5 of Loggins being pushed back into his stall. Heavy damage to both his nose and the rear of Godlewski.
Lap113
DK: The 11 of been cutting a path through this field. He started at the tail end and now challenges the 19 of his brother Kenner Wallace for the 2nd spot.
Lap 153
DW: Talk about a man with a lot of fight in him. Wild Bill's caught up with Keith Wallace and they're side-by-side for 6th.
Lap 207
DK: And there's trouble in turn 1! Smoke pouring from beneath the #5 Ford of Lee "Spud" Loggins. Huge disappointment for the L.A.P. 1 team who came here with the championship in sight. Loggins, of course, involved in an incident on the first round of green flag stops.
DW: And it's a wonder that engine held on that long. That radiator damage apparently causing that car to overheat.
Lap 232
DW: Gosh, Dave, this battle for the lead has been going on for 10 laps and I think Hick's tires have just about had it.
DK: And we've got a car in the wall. It's the 23 of Keith Wallace.
DW: Yeah, speaking of tires, that left rear just went down and sent him into the wall. He was up pretty high so that right side looks like he could still go on.
DK: And with the caution out, pit road is open. The leaders Strutlin and Tim Wallace coming in to get service. The 11 team a little slow. Looks like they dropped a lugnut but they get that left front tire secure but he's gonna lose 2nd spot to Kenner Wallace in the 19.
DW: And Hick having no trouble getting that 71 car out first.
Lap 270
DK: And now we've got a 3 wide battle at the front of the field. Hick Strutlin on the inside of a charging pair of Wallace brothers. Tim in the middle and Kenner on the high side. Kenner losing a little momentum out of turn 2. Tim Wallace will take the lead and leave his brother to deal with the 71 of Strutlin.
White Flag
DK: And they come out of turn 4 with 1 lap to go in the 2021 Fantasy Cup season. Tim Wallace leads Hick Strutlin into turns 1 and 2 with about a car length advantage. What a race this man has run.
DW: He cam from last to first over the course of 270 laps and hasn't had a problem fending off the 71 of ol' Hick.
DK: He holds the advantage as he brings his Ford out of turn 4. Tim Wallace will win the Busch 300 here at Dover as well as the 2021 Fantasy Cup Series title!
DW: Man, what a season this guy's had. He missed qualifying for the first race due to his team hauler breaking down and was allowed to start the race in last. And now, he's a Fantasy Cup champion.
DK: And his father Keith Wallace won it a year ago. That family is truly setting a winning trend, DW.
1. 11 - Tim Wallace
2. 71 - Hick Strutlin
3. 19 - Kenner Wallace
4. 46 - JR Sealey
5. 88 - Amy Hilton
6. 72 - Bill Godlewski
7. 23 - Keith Wallace (-2)
8. 5 - Lee Loggins (Out)
DK: Stories of triumph and heartbreak have been told throughout these 7 races and another exciting season of Fantasy Cup Series action has been concluded. For Darrell Waltrip, I'm Dave Knight. We thank you so much for joining us and we'll see you next season. |
