LeeRoy drove this car in the 1961 Daytona Permatex 250.
Did finish the race. The car would not stay in high gear so
he drove most of the race with one arm on the steering wheel
and the other arm on the gear shift to hold it in gear.
I did see this car run some hot laps at the Jax speedway before
the car was ever numbered. I think the black paint was original
and the interior looked very stock. Had some basic roll bars
made of square tubing. Not very impressive!!!
The following year LeeRoy won the race in a modified 55 Ford that
Fireball Roberts had been driving at least sense 1958.

This is an “old” model redone after the only picture of the 6 know to exist.
A picture that was taken by LeeRoy’s wife Gloria & from his sister Evelyn’s photo collection. A b/w picture that shows the passenger side of the car with the door open. Doesn’t show the number but for sure it was orange.
Not sure what was under the hood. The picture shows the car with the hood up but can’t tell what’s there. Could be anything from a Pontiac to a Lincoln to Cadillac powered. I choose a Chevy 409.
Best I can do is describe the photo as I was asked not to post it.
Don’t think this car had a previous racing history. When I saw this car all the body lines were straight , no dents anywhere, & I believe the original 1940 black paint.
But then I was a bit on the young side when I saw it !!!
Not good aerodynamics, but these cars were still lapping
Daytona Speedway at 150mph. rolled up windows for the
most part, or no side windows or rear window to allow the
air to flow through the car.
