In 1974 Sonny Hutchins qualified at Martinsville outside of Richard Petty on the front row. I am looking to duplicate Sonny’s Monte Carlo. Would that car most likely have had disk brakes/drum brakes or some combination? I’ll be using an AMT body on a Salvinos chassis with decals from Ol’ Days. Thanks in advance.

With that car being a relatively new Zervakis build, I would suspect it had every advantage that was legal at the time (and maybe a few that weren'tSmile including disc brakes. We know all the top cars had them by then and I would think it would have been hard for Hutchins to sit on the front row, lead the first lap, and remain competitive without them. Disc's would be a bigger plus at Martinsville than most places they raced back then.

Thanks John. Completely agree with your assessment. What would be your guess on the rear suspension. Leaf springs or truck arms. Thanks, Don

A Monte Carlo would have been required to have a coil spring rear suspension.

Whether or not it would have been truck arms, I cannot answer.

BUT, Bobby Allison did not use truck arms on his Monte Carlos, so I would not
be surprised if Emanuel Zervakis used something else as well.
