Which Tamiya acrylic paint do you use for the interior when it asks for light grey?

Tamiya doesn't make a gray light enough for the modern chassis gray. A lot of people mix white with just a few drops of black to get the very light gray.

Personally I use approx 00 as my year break. All of the 01 and newer builds I use as-20 Tamiya. Totally arbitrary on my behalf.

+1 to this. Insignia White is the way to go.

SEM Promax Chassis Grey is they way to go, its what the teams have used/do still use.

In my resarch , it and Tamiya Insignia White are very similar in shade.

I would beg to differ with your opinion. The SEM is lighter than the traditional dove grey for older chassis, but it’s still not as light (and as close to the modern chassis paint) as Insignia white is. IMO the Insignia white is the closest thing we have in a rattle can to the modern chassis color.

But it's flat and has to be cleared, right?

Yup... but I don’t bother to clear mine. I actually prefer to use flat colors for chassis/cage, you can’t really see whether it’s glossy or not when on display. The flats dry faster and tend to have better coverage with less coats than the gloss.

Depending on what I am doing I will, from time to time leave the inside of the body in white primer. I find it lends a little contrast against the cage inside of the body.

Building Jr's 2014 Daytona 500 car now and SEM Chassis Gray matches whatever Axalta gray HMS uses. This piece of sheetmetal was from his 2014 Clash car.

I feel like I'm at work now...3 stage White Pearl concoction. Laughing
