|
|
Let's try this as maybe a fun diversion. I'm starting with 1973 because I'm about to post a photo of my all time fave. BUT... the idea here is, choose the Stock car you liked best from 1973. Post a beauty shot or two of that car and tell us why you like it. I'll give it a few weeks to get some contenders. The three most popular cars will be voted on for most beautiful stock car, 1973. If it goes well maybe we'll do it again with a different year?
SO, not only my favorite for that year but my all time (Probably because it was Richard's as well) The 1973 STP Petty Charger.
For me it's all here. A fan of Chargers and blue the rocket red halo'd over the roof is just striking to me. The car had an undeniable pedigree and MOPAR was a force at the time. Something that would quickly change over the next couple years. The last blue beast to run a HEMI always has a place deep in my heart. _________________ "Dude, it's not Camelot... it's only a model." Let the good times roll
Let them knock you around
Benny Parsons was ahead of his time in terms of that piece of musical philosophy.
He won the '73 title over Petty's Sexy Beast with a disemboweled Chevy at Rockingham that - what seems like now - half the NASCAR garage pitched in to help get him rolling. Great story of the classic little guy's triumph.
It's not like Parson's started the day in an absolute mutt of a car. But, a few laps can be a long time in racing... .

Nice idea for a topic!
For me it has to be the Pearson No 21. Not really 73 specific, but I like that red/white with the gold for some reason, still looks good on todays car when they run it.

Don't have any pics of it, but mine would be the #71 K&K Insurance car of Bobby Isaac, or was it Buddy Backer by this time(?)
Though i would have to throw in the #71 K&K Ins. Chargers from 1968 - 1974 and especially the Daytona.... _________________ Ed. K |

Just an FYI -
The Petty 'red' was actually fluorescent orange looking in person.
They have poster boards that color today!
Hard to capture that color on old film.
Now, the large STP sticker on the 1/4 panel is red!! |

I'll concur with odcics2's description.
Fluorescent red has a harsh, almost pinkish tone in sunlight. The color on the Petty cars is for all practical purposes the same pigment Krylon sells as Red-Orange. Back in the day most people called it fluorescent orange, just like the K&K cars were considered orange and not red. |

I remember watching the 43 circle MIS back in the day.
I attended every race from 1970 to 1978.
You could see that car ANYWHERE on the track, in sunny or cloudy days. |

I fell in love with the '73 Grand Am when it first came out. I still admire the styling of the GM cars of the '70s.
The Herb Adams Grand Am ran at Riverside (started and finished 15th) with Jerry Thompson driving, and did not qualify at Daytona, and that was it for Adams' NASCAR effort.
The car was built close to stock, with few fabbed suspension parts. Disc brakes all around were GM parts, from the Corvette.
This is a pre-competition shot, which explains the lack of a chin spoiler. _________________ Bill Jobson is my real name. |

Tom -
Post that pic of the Petty Magnum I sent you, showing the color.
I think it's about the best representation I have seen captured by camera of the side/stripe color. |

There's a lot to like in that Pontiac, Bill. Not the most successful car, but truly one of the most stylish. |

Rear trunk, 1/4 panels killed any downforce.
The front could plant.
Rear, not so much.
It's all about the balance. |

Of course not. It's about accuracy of details for modelers.... |

Of course not. It's about accuracy of details for modelers.... | Not about that either. This is just for fun about which car looked best. Nothing more. _________________ "Dude, it's not Camelot... it's only a model." "Details man, I need details!!" |

Guess you are right!!
It's all fun and games until you discover you painted your car the wrong color!
Sorry, couldn't resist. |
