1960 more or less....

This is a new version of a model I did several years ago. With only one b/w photo to work from and a covered hood, had to use a little guess work before but have sense learned a few more facts about this car.
The numbers are outlined in blue this time. Most all cars were outlined in blue not black that came out of Red Moore’s Garage in Jacksonville. A fact I didn’t know until recently.
In general all the #39 cars ran the Chevy W block truck engines, but not this one. Turns out it used an early model CHRYSLER Hemi .
And this was one of the few #39 cars that completely covered the engine!!!

Engine from an AMT 1957 CHRYSLER 300C. Valve covers from an AMT 53 Studebaker that came with a Hemi engine to give it that earlier 50’s look with “Chrysler Fire Power”...

Frame is also from the AMT 1957 CHRYSLER 300C. But much altered to to work on the 33 Ford sedan body.
(Body, front & read end, radiator, tires and wheels are from BigDonkey Resin)...
Roll bars, side bars, bumpers etc made from Evergreen styrene plastic.
Decals are made by SlotCarFever. Not perfect but close enough.

Krylon “Red Pepper” spray can paint for the body and frame.

This car had a short racing history. I saw the car once and it was totaled going into the third turn at the dirt Jacksonville speedway 1/2 mile.
May have been the one and only race ever for this one.

Red Moore & LeeRoy were back in the W block chevy powered coupes by the next race.

Often called “The forgotten Hero”. But just google LeeRoy Yarbrough and you will see he’s far from that.
Junior Johnson said he was the best he had ever seen!!!
Fifty years sense the victory in the Daytona 500. And 1984 sense his death. But we still remember.

It’s more fun to build the early years modified racers he drove than the later Grand National cars. Keeping the Fast home built unsafe cars of the early 60’s as memories not forgotten...

And there’s so many pictures to work from thanks to the internet!
