LeeRoy Yarbrough.
Around 1960 North Florida and South Georgia Modified. Model A Ford body
and a Chevy W head truck engine. Engine with Schooler Cams by Frank Conkin...
Black here was later painted yellow, same number and
driver. Last modified I saw LeeRoy drive. But he did return to the JAX speedway
in the early 70's driving a late model sportman Chevelle #98...

Sure no secrets. Just like the real car of the day made from lots of different
parts and really simple to build.
The body, wheels & tires are from BIGDONKEY.com resins. The model A
body is only $15 compared to $40 and up for the full Monogram model A kit
on ebay.
Most any frame can be adapted. This one is from an AMT 1940 Ford but it's
much altered to make it fit. Front end is from a Revell 1932 Ford & the rear
may be from a 53 Studebaker. It looks good on the model even if its not what theywould have used.
Headers, roll bars, sidebars etc is all evergreen plastic rods. Great stuff to work with.
Testors flat black gloss coated after the decals were applied.
Did this one for a friend in Jacksonville who was at the races as a kid same as I was,
but we never new each other. He was a personal friend of LeeRoy Yarbrough and is
close to LeeRoy's family to this day. He is a wealth of information on the late 50's and
early 60's action at the long gone JAX Speedway...
Current project is this 34 dodge/ply. The photo is from 1959 when these cars
were running tall skinny tires. The Chevy 409 type engines were the hot ticket
into the early 60's.
Plan is to build most every modified LeeRoy drove out of Jacksonville until he
headed to the Carolina's and NASCAR...
