KS: And it's time to turn it up once again! The Fantasy Cup Series is going racing in the dirt at the Smokey Harris Speedway here in Alabama. Hello, everyone, I'm Ken Squier alongside Darrell Waltrip. Welcome to the Sneaky Pete's 100.
DW: And Ken, it's been a crazy weekend. Qualifying was delayed because of the weather and the race was completely washed out for 2 days. The cars were fired up on Saturday but mother nature put a stop to the ol' vortex theory before it ever got going.
KS: And the engines have been re-fired and we're ready for 100 laps at this great facility.
Green Flag
DW: Boogity boogity boogity! Let's go Monday night racin', boys!
KS: And the field fans out through turns 1 and 2 on this 3/8 of a mile facility. Jimm Jackson with the advantage. He'll lead them down the back stretch. The pole sitter Lee "Spud" Loggins lost in the shuffle. He falls back to the 3rd position and Jackson comes to the strip to lead the first lap.
Lap 17
DW: Look at this move right here, Ken! That 25 of Bobby Dravin to the outside of Hick!
KS: Hick Strutlin, the veteran from Mt. Airy, North Carolina feverishly trying to defend that 3rd spot. Gonna slam the door on Dravin out of turn 4. Across the line, the Pontiac, car number 25 of Dravin to the outside again. He comes down out of turn 2. Strutlin throws the block but Dravin swerves back to the outside. He'll have no trouble getting by the Skoal Bandit Dodge.
Lap 31
KS: The field remains within a second and a half from 1st to 6th. Keith Wallace knocking on the door of the Buick of the leader Jimm Jackson. Bobby Dravin in 3rd's gonna give The ford of Wallace a push as they approch the back bumper of the leader.
Lap 52
DW: 3 wide for the lead. Dravin commanding that inside line but that's not always a sure thing on the dirt.
KS: And the 23 of Keith Wallace comes around on the outside, Jimm Jackson in the middle. They touch coming down the back straightaway as the #74 Buick will fall into 3rd.
Lap 90
KS: To the inside goes Keith Wallace. Dravin trying to block but can't make it stick. Wallace to the lead as they come to the line with 10 laps remaining at Smokey Harris Speedway!
DW: Patience is a virtue, Ken, but when the laps wind down, sometimes you gotta force that leader to make a mistake and that's just what Keith Wallace just did!
White Flag
KS: One lap to go. Keith Wallace barrels into turns 1 and 2. He has about 3 car lengths on second place Bobby Dravin. No lapped traffic ahead as he brings the Wallace Brewing Ford down the back stretch and into turns 3 and 4. Checkered flag in the air, the Sneaky Pete's 100 will be won by Keith Wallace and Brew Dog Motorsports!
DW: No contest from Dravin in 2nd. Those last 10 laps were a trip to the woodshed!
KS: And now we go to the unofficial results for today's event.
1. 23 - Keith Wallace
2. 25 - Bobby Draven
3. 74 - Jimm Jackson
4. 46 - JR Sealey
5. 11 - Hick Strutlin
6. 95 - Lee Loggins
DW: And the 95 of Loggins starting at the top but falling all the way back. Another heartbreaker for that team.
KS: And with that we conclude our coverage. Thank you for joining us. For Darrell Waltrip, I'm Ken Squier. We'll see you next week at Bowman Gray Stadium for the Lowe's 150! |
