I found an old ERTL kit of a 79-80? Chevy Caprice with Richard Petty on the box. Thank you for your help with this.

They did run those Chevys in Cup but they had a different rear window that had a look like the fastback Monte Carlo SS years later. The Ertl kit needs LOTS of work to make a decent replica. |

Didn’t Rusty Wallace run one in his very first race for Penske? Maybe at Atlanta? Think it was dark blue and white, #16 and sponsored by Norton. _________________ ON DECK/IN THE WORKS: too many started to list...

I think there was a Waltrip Gatorade kit as well. _________________ "Dude, it's not Camelot... it's only a model." "Details man, I need details!!" |

Yap! That's the one. Now that I think about it, I may actually have one of these kits. It would explain the mystery bumper in my spares box. _________________ "Dude, it's not Camelot... it's only a model." "Details man, I need details!!" |

Winston West driver Jim Robinson also ran a Chevy Caprice, though I cannot right now think of any other West drivers who did. Perhaps partly due to NASCAR allowing another year of eligibility for the BIG 1977 Monte Carlo, a favored car of West Chevy teams. Richard Petty stated in print that the Caprice was actually a bit shorter than the '77 Monte Carlo, making it better suited for short track duties. |
