MPC kit #1709 of Cale Yarborough`s 1973 #11 Kar-Kare Laguna Chevelle. Other than the model kit box I have never seen a photo of this car. Was this Laguna a one race, car? If so which track?

I know I saw it on a 74 Monte, they sponsored 73 and the first half of 74. So it could be on a Chevelle or Monte. I thought that was the car he led all 500 at Bristol with in 73.

Lots of good pics in Nascar Winston Cup Yearbooks!

I found 74,75,77 on ebay about 20 each.

Yea those year books are great and I own them. But those cars are 74 Monte Carlos and Chevelles. The model kit box cover has a photo of a 74 Laguna, this is not the same front end that is on the 75, 76 Laguna Type-S3. 1974 year book shows which car Cale drove at each race and race #14 on June 9, 74 the team switched sponsors and went to Carling Beer. Its no big deal and I`m thinking this may have been a test car. Thanks for responding.

I have a pic of the 73 Laguna with Cale posing next to it. It only has one or two fender decals, probably a publicity shot with a test or show car? I'll try to post it later.

I have pictures of that car as a 73 and 74 Chevelle as well as a 73 and 74 Laguna. I am not sure but I think the sponsorship did not cover all the races in 73 and 74 so you will find some pics of cars with different logos as well as cars that are just plain white with the Kar-Kare lettering in red. I am not sure about this but I think there was some type of rules violation that resulted in suspensions or whatever and that had something to do with the cars that were just white. I also have a pic somewhere of Dick Trickle in the car what race I have no idea but it is one I would like to get more info on.

I have read where Junior Johnson was quite adamant that he would only race with Other People's Money. This could explain the various sponsors during the early 1970's. Of course when Junior secured the Holly Farms sponsorship full time, it was kinda - sorta his money, since he was a big supplier of poultry to Holly Farms.

This car. The front seems to be sitting high, like the engine had been pulled.
Never raced with the Laguna nose.
By the way, the MPC box photo was retouched to appear as a Laguna...

The nose is a '73. The main synthetic piece was the same for '73 and '74. The difference was the shape of the signal lamps on the grille. In the front view b&w photo you'll notice the round signal lamps of the '73. '74 had square lamps.

The only difference in the '73 and '74 nose was the grille insert. You can see the parking light holes in the grille behind the mesh in the photos, the '73 had round parking lights and the '74 had square parking lights.

i'm talking about the small one with no chrome as opposed to the integrated bumper instead of the larger one that has the chrome bumper.

Now when you say "synthetic", do you mean the rubbery kind of nose like the mid 70's Camaros had? Or was it a type of fiberglass?

Urethane, the rubbery material, over a steel framework, I presume.

You mean this? It would work for a '73 or '74 Laguna.

Most I have seen have no rivets. Smooth or with the stock rub strip.
