For all of you tech experts, I'm sure this has been talked about before on here, but new here, so thought i would ask. So thinking about doing a super detailed, wheels off, up on jack stands contest build.

1. Were these engines dry sump? Oil pan in the kit looks like a wet sump, but I thought that this was about the time that dry sump became the thing.

2. Were these cars 4-wheel disc brake, or were they still front disc/rear drum?

Any help would be appreciated!!

Susan

Both answers in this era, would depend on the team. Most of the big teams had gone over to dry sump and four wheel disks. The few holdouts would have been the independents who were trying to make the race by the skin of their teeth, so to speak.

By '78 when the Olds was first used in NASCAR both dry sumps and disc brakes would have been basically universal for any halfway competitive car.
