FRANK WARREN'S DODGE CHARGER
Finished this one a few months ago. Just now gettin' around to posting.
KIT: MPC Dodge Charger
PAINT: Tamiya TS-47 Chrome Yellow and Tamiya TS-14 Gloss Black.
DECALS: Cherry Run. Made my own Hilbert Motors qtr. panel sponsor. Powerslide for the contingencies and gauges. Slixx for the fire extinguisher.
WHEELS/TIRES: PPP
BUILD NOTES: Pretty much right out of box. I did make my own dash and instrument panel. I also used Evergreen 5/32" tubing for the exhaust dumps. Also used a PPP window net. Just a fun, simple, and quick build.
PERSONAL NOTES: I always admired the underdog or independent drivers during the early '70s like Frank Warren. I'm also a sucker for gold/chrome foil numbers. This was always one of my favorite paint schemes. Makes another fine addition to my Early '70s collection. I'm assuming the JC is for Johnson City, TN. For some reason this made the song "Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde" by Travis Tritt keep running through my mind during this build.
THE REAL THING:

Really enjoyed this build. I really like building simple almost "out of the box" builds. Thanks for looking! THANKS john843 for the kit!

Wow Rob! I did not know this. I'm sick to my stomach about finding this out. Knowing this I can no longer bear to see this car in my collection. I'm going to permanently remove it from my collection. I'll probably strip it and re-build it into a car driven by an honorable driver.
Thanks for filling me in on this Rob.

It didn’t get much publicity since Frank is such a little known name, but it happened right on the heels of Rick Crawford’s arrest for the same thing.
I almost didn’t post because I didn’t want to detract from your excellent build, but in the end decided that word needed to spread. I’m sure whatever this car turns into will be equally as impressive! |

Ya know, if we knew the worst about all the drivers we look up to, and we have claimed as our heroes, we might not build any of their models. However, what Frank is charged with is no way tolerable. I've always been a fan of the independents from those days. I'll wait and see what comes of this. But, it doesn't look too good for Frank. If this is proven to be true, he'll spend the remainder of his days behind bars. Rightfully so. _________________ life is hard, it's harder when you're stupid. John Wayne |

Great build and love the paint scheme. I did one of Frank's ride a few years ago ( 70 Charger ) with Dave Vann decals. To me it's a paint scheme that stands out in a field of drivers.
I don't condone in any way as with others on this board with the alleged act that he is charged with. The point I will make is that you appeared to have enjoyed building that version of racing history that we all grew up with. The same argument could be applied to Jeremy Mayfield and other former drivers that morally ran afoul of society's laws but with History, there is always going to be dark moments and events. And as Mack in the above post stated that it doesn't look good and so forth, I agree.
I think you built a great model that to me was the golden era of Nascar. If you decide to redo it, I understand. You do great work and it is always a treat to see what you come out with next.....Chuck |

I visited Frank's shop, a little 2 car building in Harrisburg, many times back in the day. He was a decent guy at the time. He often ran 'John 3:16' on his car when he didn't have a sponsor.
What he is ACCUSED of is horrible. And if found guilty through due course of law....he should serve time. BUT.....let's not be to quick to judgement.
We have no idea of what went on and how.....or if some un-diagnosed closed head injury could be at the center of bad behavior. The old 'walk a mile in his shoes' comes to mind. NOT an endorsement or making what happened any less horrible. I hope due Justice is served and he asks forgiveness.
Off soapbox..... |

one of my favorite car/color combinations. Have photos I took years ago
of that car on the 1/2 mile Richmond track.
Nice job, tuff getting that MPC roll cage to fit anywhere near what it should be. |

Thanks to all for the compliments! I am going to place this build in storage until a verdict is rendered in Frank's case. I do believe in "innocent until proven guilty" however, if Frank is found guilty, I will strip and re-build into a different car. I only wish I had known about all this before the build.

Don't destroy such a nice build. I'd look at it this way. I build a few WWII era models. I've built a few German models......I like tanks. It's history and if we forget....we will relive it.
Frank's Charger is history.....but if you really hate it....so be it.

I personally have a problem with Jeremy Mayfield getting lumped in with the accused child molester, Frank Warren. I was recently scolded on this forum of somebody starting trouble on the my driver is better than yours thing. But, I am a believer Mayfield was publicly smeared and wasn't guilty of anything other than having a big mouth. we also live in a society of guilty until proven innocent. That being said, once convicted, he should never see the light of day again where he could harm anyone else. That's what judges and juries are for, and just because he was arrested doesn't make him guilty. Which is exactly what you guys are inferring. I like the analogy to people who build military models. it's a beautiful model, and if it makes you uncomfortable, I understand, but Frank Warren is not a convicted child molester yet. And Jeremy Mayfield has lawsuits against NASCAR. _________________ "And on the 8th day God created the Hemi!" |
