|

I am thinking of doing some decals for some short track cars. These decals would be for cars that ran in Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan areas they would have been run in the mid to late 60s and early 70s models to do them are plentiful 69-70 Chevelles this type of thing is there any interest in items like this... |

I have some good pictures of short track cars out of Louisville that were quite successful regionally. LaMarr Marshall, Andy Hampton, Jesse Baird, John Sommerville, Ken Reiter.....Chevelle's, Laguna, Chargers and a big old Pontiac Catalina.... |

Yes, depends on pricing. I'm from that area and would enjoy seeing sponsors, etc. from there.

Yes indeed, sounds like gteat idea. I grew up around Chicago area 60s n 70s exactly my time frame. You probably know about Chicago Racing Memorabilia show coming up in Peotone at end of march. 1/2 of Bazzilion pix there. |

I have additional shots of some of these cars if they are of interest.....These will show full size if you click on them. AS a side note, the #71 Charger was a retired Bobby Isaac NASCAR racer that came to Louisville via Harry Hyde. Harry was a Louisville boy and built many cars for the local short track before he moved to the big time.

The shot of Andy Hampton's 69 Chevelle looks like it was at Daytona perhaps for the Permatex race did he run that car in Louisville as well? also do you have any more shots of Lamaar Marshall in the 76 Laguna and some more of #99 of John Sommerville?

The Hampton car may have been a one off deal. The LaMarr Marshall car ran as a Laguna nose and a chevelle nose depending on the track. Sommerville's car changed color a few times and sponsors came and went. I'm supposed to pick up some additional photos this week from the archives of the track announcer who passed away a short time ago. Not sure what to expect.

I like the idea of these types of decals, but I was too young to know the drivers/sponsors when they ran. It would be a help to me (and maybe others) if you could list the sponsor in addition to the driver when you start selling the decals.
Maybe provide a photo showing either the decal and/or the car on which its based?
I look forward to seeing these! |

If you need pictures of old short track cars, join the Fairgrounds Motor Speedway Facebook page. The place closed in 1980 and we currently are approaching 3000 members. The place was magical. It was a frequent stop for ARCA and ASA as well as the home to a numbers of top regional drivers. I'm one of the moderators and we have hundreds and hundreds of pictures.

Good Morning. Did you ever come up with any decals for the short track cars from Ill. or Wis.? I do a lot of late models from this area and am very interested in doing more. Thanks for keeping the memories alive. |

I did some but there really did not seem to be any demand the cars I did mostly ran Michigan and Iowa but did run Illinois for big shows here is a list of what I have below
"Pokey" West 1957 Chevy
Jim Bickerstaff 1961 Chevy
Bobby Allison 1961 Chevy
Ray Hendrick 68-69 Chevelle
Johnny Benson Sr 1970 Chevelle
Ray Nece 70 Monte Carlo
I have several done for my self like Al Shears 1964-65 Riviera, Joe Shears 66 Chevelle Early version, Jeg's Monte Carlo #7 and Bob Laravee's 70 Chevelle I modified a kit decal using normal colors but metallic gold for the numbers like the real car I also added the roof and trunk strips because I hate to mask. If you want to see any car pics let me know I may try a few more and see what happens but the sales were dead on these since I released them and of coarse several have been copied by others but that's normal the thieves are always around... |
