The Revell kit I have has nothing above the S-4B third stage ...I bought it because somewhere between my living in Cleveland OH and the time I finally unpacked the built one I had I lost some of the rest of it!!! The Apollo part!!!So I am left with the three stages and the base of the Apollo part that goes on top of the third stage.

Now... I am going to build the Saturn V first and then attempt to fabricate the rest of the S-4B extension above the third stage workshop section and the cone on top!

I'm still debating whether to make this and install it under the S-4B extension and make a clear window in order to see it...

I built that Revell 1/96 scale kit back when it first came out. The pre-decorated body tubes were ground breaking in 1968!! I have two reissues I want to build as the original build fell off a shelf and broke apart much like a real one would!!

Well I've assembled the first. second and third stage bodies and got started on the painting of the black areas! The sheets that have to be rolled up were a pain because the holes were not stamped properly and from one end to the other (this was the case for all 3 stages) ...

As seen in this image below the holes were offset from one end of the sheet to the other in the vertical so I had to elongate the holes so that the ends would line up with other top to bottom! This made the process of getting the parts that held it all together to stay together much more difficult!

Anyway... here is a pic of what I have done so far...

Here is the third stage with the extension on top which I made from a section of an estes BT-80 Body Tube... Still have to make the 2 section cone for the top! BTW I've decided to not make the folded up skylab inside the extension... just too much work involved and just getting the cone for the top made right is going to make for enough work.

I wish I could find more detailed pics of it from the third stage up! There are pics of models but other than the painting of it I would like to see actual differences between the Apollo third stage and the workshop skylab version... anyway I'll keep at it little by little!

Another update!

Finished the 2 section cone and glued them onto the adapter section above the third stage ...the very tip of the cone is actually from a nascar kit! I took a tank from a driver figure/pit accessory sprue glued it together and let the end stick out the top! Also bought a tube of white elmers white wood filler paste to fill in and sand the seams! It's as perfect as I could make it... had to make the top part of the cone twice tried it first with poster board but it was way too thick to roll into a proper tip so I cut the cover off my mom's old 2015 ford benefits booklet which was white on the intside and like card stock and it worked well!

OK... here's a shot of the full rocket so far...

Next I am going to take the skylab shroud and nose cone section off and paint the black area just above the third stage (workshop). Then I will add some of the details to the first stage ...the engines and painted engine shrouds and fins and paint the black stripe around the top of the first stage. Then paint the top of the tank on the first stage.

Then I will assemble and paint the engines, apply the details to the second stage and paint the black on the bottom of the second stage and inter-stage and then the tank at the top of the second stage.

Finally I will add some details to the bottom of the third stage where the engine would be on the Apollo version after detailing and painting the third stage... finally the areas of black will be painted on the adapter between the second and third stages along with any other details that remain!
