kept looking at it head on...in different light...looking at it from the top...

then i got it...the driver side fender was not as wide as the passenger side...

so...after a b**t ton of squadron gray...some perfect plastic white (which is a finer putty)...more sanding and grinding and cussing...

it looks better...(?)

to get it really low will probably require some surgery on the front end...

on the hoof...

still have to pull the body down on the chassis to get the stance set...

i did not use the kit rolling stock...i am using stuff from an older Revell kit so i could adjust the wheels/tires into the body.

also:

yeah...not even close.

one last shot before i wrap it up and drive it into the showroom...

the particulars:

Revell glue kit...Ace's kicka** decal sheet...Powerslide detail decals (the roof/cowl flap decals are just about as entertaining to apply as wheel pinstripe decals...but the result is worth it)...TS-23 spray bomb for the body color...

extra stuff:

if you use this decal sheet...apply all the "scheme" decals first...then the contingencies and sponsors...fortunately i had spare headlight/grill/ect decals to fix my getting ahead of my self.

that is a chopped up roof flap from Mike's SS RF/HC sheet.

while i don't think many (if any) cars had roof hatches...i'm going to fill the outline of the hatch in...just for consistency.

Build looks great!

thank you sir...

yeah...i was being google lazy...2016 the hatch was optional for plate tracks...2017 mandatory for plate tracks...optional at all other venues.

i think i'm good...it looks like the 43 had the hatch at the Daytona 500 in 2016...so...i guess this just became the Daytona 500 car. (shrugs)

put the TBird on the back burner for now...(actually got a good deal on a squarebird that will also be a Dale Sr. Wrangler car)

so the next project in the Skunkworks race shop is gonna be the #18 NAVY Lumina from the '91 Daytona 500...dirt cheap diecast...Mike's awesome decal sheet...

doing this for my oldest ungrateful offspring as a parting gift for successful completion of his 6 year swim thru the Navy...

Rusto Navy Blue...rolling stock from new Revell glue kit (it had to have some beefy-er items)...SEM for the chassis...

rolling stock...

revell glue kit tires and wheels...added Powerslide tire detail decals along with the stuff included on the Navy sheet.

still need to clean them up and shoot them with dullcoat...but the weather is a bit wonky.

on deck...

gonna fill a hole in my collection with a COT...

always liked this Army car...

so...relatively dirt cheap diecast from the ebay...worked with Mark (mpr decals) to get the sheet resized to 1/24...

will probably do the rough in construction/prep on a Kes Fusion using a set of Stoney's...

harder to disassemble than a 24th scale diecast...had to get physical with it...the dremel tool won.

wet sanded the body...then shot some Mr. Hobby 1500 on it. i'll repeat both a couple of more times before i shoot the color coats.

yeah...gonna have to redo this one. went a little overboard on the masking.
tried to get the curves with the white tamiya along with regular "yellow" masking.

sprayed some SEM gray on parts of the Kes Fusion...might be able to shoot the body this weekend.

that is the 2018 Discount Tire hot rod...

other things i am working on (weather permitting):

dirt cheap Xfinity Mustang diecast...mainly getting the cockpit up to snuff. actually gonna use the seat and shifter in the Fusion.
i really would like to do the black and gold Carroll Shelby Engines #98 on one of the two of these i picked up.

1/64th scale ZL1...first shot at HO scale...

two Dale Sr. Wrangler Thunderbirds... both are Monogram/Revell glue kits. these got back burner-ed before the holidays to finish the Navy car.

2010 COT Impala diecast built as the #39 Army car...

gauge setup for the dirt cheap Mustang...i am really impressed with this diecast...even tho it is a standard edition unit it is easy to upgrade. the gauges were printed on regular printer paper...cut out and micro-kristal-klear-ed onto the back of the dash...the tach is just the dial face cut out and glued in...i filled in the the tach face with kristal klear to give it that glass face look.

masking pulled off the Kes Fusion...i don't know if this is gonna work...the way the Discount Tire logo sits on the rear quarters with the white cutout in the black...i am sure i will have to do some fill ins and stuff.

(before)

(after)

on the hoof...still have to sort out the chassis (of course one side goes back together higher than the other)

gonna dress out the interior a bit more with some leftover decals...

been letting the Kes Fusion cure a bit before i wet sand and clear it.

done messing around with this mutt...

funny how it looks like a totally different car when compared to the out of the box unit.

got a few days of decent weather ahead...time to jump back on the Kes car.

(and upon further reflection...after looking at the hundreds of photo taken of the Kes Fusion on and off the the track..i got the hood decal cattywampus...
and this is after looking at all those photos numerous times over the past two months.)

i needed to cut off the "circle R" trademark thingy off the Discount Tire logo and slide the whole thing down the hood a bit.

dang it.
