|
|
I'm building and converting a Monogram 83-86 T-bird to represent Bill Elliott's 1985 Daytona car. The latest detail I noted is how flat the windshield looks:
Did the street version have a flat window like that too? It's quite difficult to see in photos of Elliott's car.
I took a spare windshield and thickened it 3 mm in the middle, using Apoxie followed by Mr Surfacer:
I will have to vacform a clear windshield over this master, if it's correct.
What do you think, better or worse?

If you look at some reference pics of the actual race cars, there's a cowl panel piece that is omitted on the model kit cars, that has a rectangular opening in the center of the cowl panel for fresh air intake, or cold air box, for the engine air breather/filter. I
I'd just use the vacu-formed windshield part you made, and use the bottom section of it for your cowl panel. |

I 'discovered' that cowl vent panel too in the last few days. I took a 1985 Daytona photo and sketched the outline:
I hope you agree with my interpretation of the photo. Like you write it has a big air intake.
I will start modifying my model in the next few days. I'm afraid it will be a vulnerable part, especially when I need to bend the body a bit to mount it on the chassis. It's a long road towards a correct model
