painted and glossed just the hoods on Friday, white primered bodies

painted the bodies today

up close

and in the direct sunlight - not sure if that makes a difference in the photo or not

and with a hood on

Testors white lacquer primer under 3 coats of MCW Menards yellow lacquer.
I did notice something about the paint... aside from the fact that it's incredibly bright (like it's supposed to be), when you apply the gloss coat it seems to dull the brightness of the paint. noticed that on the hoods, just finished the final coat of yellow on the 3rd car, so I haven't glossed any of the bodies beyond the hoods. we'll see how it turns out. the paint, like all of MCW's "neon" paints, goes on flat. instructions say to use white primer and gloss.

now I just need to get my Menards decals from Dave... Laughing

If you get those glossed up they will be beautiful. You did a great job of laying down the paint. What are you clearing them with?

Thanks,
Don

Just finished the final coat of gloss on the 3rd car, 4 coats per car. Will post a pic of all 3 within the next few days.

I used most of a can of paint for the 3 cars, 3 coats each... hope that i have enough paint left in the can to do a single coat on 12 wheels Shocked don’t really wanna spend the money for an entire can ($22) just to do wheels.

Yikes. How many ounces do you get for $22?

4.5 ounces if i read correct. I can normally get several cars out of each can, around 3-4, and that is 3 coats on each. It was so expensive because the Menards yellow is considered a special order, it’s normally only available in a bottle for airbrushing. The normal rattle can costs $15 from MCW.

Well, that's pricy but I have heard MCW paint is top notch and the color looks spot on. Ya only live once!

Their stuff IS top notch, but you pay for it. A big chunk of the cost is for shipping, apparently they only ship ground because of the contents of the package (flammable, etc. all those questions that the post office asks when you hand them a package). They have spray cans just like the old BSR Replicas used, quality stuff. I don’t use any other brand for car bodies, if i can help it.

fully painted and glossed bodies, under 2 different types of light - one from just a window and the other with an overhead light on

was also able to get some paint on the wheels, barely enough paint in the can for all 12 of them, blasted them with what was left. will prolly post those later tonight.

see ya when the bodies are done

Glad you had enough paint. Everything looks great. Wish I was organized enough to paint 3 bodies at the same time!

Looking good! MCW paints are great. I just wish they would move to taking orders online instead of snail mail.

True, but their turnaround time isn’t too bad considering.

The paint turned out a bit too yellow and less neon for my tastes. I looked at the MCW catalog and they do make a neon chartreuse color, wonder if it would have been a better choice. But... it may be the same color as this, there is quite a bit of overlap between colors for specific cars. For example, Bud red and Motorcraft red are the same, a basic Guards red. So who knows.

Their Country Time Yellow is a neon chartreuse , that can be used for Menards as well.

The first one, Peak version, will be done in a few days. Sunoco decals need to be applied, windows need to be decaled and glued in place, the splitter needs to be worked, and i need to figure out the front stance and glue the wheels in place. Man, i shaved a bit too much off the rear springs, it sits REALLY low in the rear, can’t get the front low enough to match. And i learned something about applying the red and black stripes... that i will have to correct on the next two i do. Oh well, live and learn...

Should be in the show room in a week or two.
