From the mid 50's.
AMT 39 Ford. Ron Coon tires/rims. Chevy V8 engine.
Testors spray paint. Evergreen plastic for the bumpers, roll bars etc.

About 80 % complete. Painted the red half this moring (Fed 5th). The white last Saturday. Needs a little touch up here & there but should look good in the end.

Give it a few days to dry before adding the decals. Some guess work here. Difficult
to read what's actually on the car.

This one is looking great. Without knowing your age, I have to ask, where do you get your inspiration for your great builds? Did you attend Jacksonville Speedway as a child or is this your favorite era in racing? All of your cars always look good and seem to be well thought out.

Guess I’m a child of the 50’s. Some of these cars I did not see run but just work from faded pictures. My neighbor in Jacksonville built cars for the track in his back yard. Was a great learning experience. Actually saw my first Grand National race at the JAX speedway in 1961, won by lee Petty.
A few years ago, thanks to this forum, became acquainted with “Randy” in Jacksonville. He & his father were great speedway fans & were friends with all the drivers. We were both big Lee Roy Yarbrough fans. To this day he is still friends with Lee Roy’s sister Evelyn.
Most of the models I have done are for Randy. Something he had always wanted but just wasn’t a model builder himself. He’s provided most of the pictures, including the 39Jr. Photo.
Being able to produce computer generated decals has really made all this possible, but have been building models as a hobby as long as I can remember.
That’s a brief history anyway. I live in Northern Va. (across the Potomac from Washington D.C.). Have two sisters still in Jacksonville. Have not been back to JAX in recent history, and of course the old speedway is long gone.

Has that NASCAR raced on the beach look. But don't think this one
ever got beyond the Jacksonville 1/2 mile & maybe a few tracks in South
Georgia.
