I don't think they made a 61 Starliner kit. Luckily, I wanted to make Lorenzen's convertible that he won the 61 Rebel 300 in, so all I had to do was remove the formal 2 door roof and add a tonneau cover.

IIRC Jimmy Flintstone made a resin 61 Starliner body

[quote="MarkJ"]I don't think they made a 61 Starliner kit.

AMT did a kit and a promo, they pop up on ebay from time to time, the promos are typically warped, the model kit version doesnt have that issue, built ups, depending on condition, look to sell in the $40-$90 range so not outrageous

I still say that the promo and the kit are hardtops no matter what box art they came in. There is no 1961 Ford Starliner kit or promo.

The third one you posted shows the box art had the hardtop in the box. I believe those so-called promos were made the same way you did yours. Hard work. We really can't tell for sure. I hope anyone looking for a 61 Ford Starliner kit can find one and prove it with box art and the box open with the boxed body molded in white styrene just like all the other parts in the kit. Some one out there please prove me wrong.

I just showed three dif ones, An ebay search of completed listings will show you several more, as will google.
Yes, the last one posted says "hardtop" on the box top, both versions are technically "hardtops", which denotes a car with no fixed B pillar to give the car an "open/airy" look, the version you are referring to is the "formal roof" hardtop while the starliner is a "fastback" style hard top.
During that era AMT used a generic style box and the end panel had a sticker/label of what model was inside the box, what is shown on the label on that ones box side is the starliner body style.
For further reference, heres a current listing for a box and parts, note the instruction sheet
https://www.ebay.com/itm/315138965305?hash=item495fbeff39:g:3wYAAOSwY9plv~z5&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAAwHzJ1DaEX%2B0%2FCjaPntWfK%2Bpd6ZSP%2FtXGgA5T99GaoFxKfy91ffdGBY2lFheaQ%2BcgllL7i4uYPoOOgQng7B7Eev6HULDYqoMKbuE90S70Ik3zRXMEuvmGq%2Bq2jYWA9OQoNqYZkGoL8Y%2Fa1kNJNmEIQqjyYHUlh06NDFx%2BaySnU9jaXBCIKZIxmCfHNErLqGPsjcCnP0SbKlRm0OD6c%2FhyMXMWAn1N8%2FHbWN700%2FZZpSG37EahYl7I%2FLoiyo%2Bih9o%2FWA%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR8jM-pizYw

,,,, and getting back to the original question and reply, I custom made mine because at the time the 60 and 61 Ford kits were fairly cheap at hobby lobby so doing a kit bash was less expensive than finding an original 61 kit or promo-looking now cost would come out pretty much the same so to do over Id look for an old original builtup one on ebay to use

Okay, the instruction sheet is the proof I needed but good luck finding one of these kits with the fastback Starliner roof on the body.

Wrong, those are finished. I'm talking about an unstarted kit with parts still on the trees and body untouched. And If you can find such a kit , the person should not sell it for less than 500 bucks.

OK, kids, out of the sandbox and back to building models! If I've learned anything in my 40+ years of buying, selling and collecting slot cars, trains, models and real car parts it's this: everything ever made is out there somewhere, along with things you've neve seen or even heard of. It just takes time and money to find and acquire!
