I just finished this Lou Lazzaro Sportsman car from around '60-'61. I started with an MPC Ridge Runner frame, a '37 Chevy resin body from Mike's Decals, and brakes, wheels and tires from Ron Coon Resins. I built the cage from plastic tube, all of the front springs and axle are from sheet plastic. Bumpers and nerf bars are made from more plastic tube and square stock. Decals are from Polecat Decals. Kinda sorry it is done, it was fun to work on!

Amazing replica, nice job! Saw Lou race many times, he did more with less than anyone else I can think of.

Wow, beautiful job of scratch building and combining parts from different sources. Looks like the real thing. Excellent build.

Thanks! I was surprised at how much resin stuff is available, decals too. I plan to build a few more old modifieds.

You list of parts used sounds like one of my modified builds !!
Those MPC kits are a good starting point, and Ron Coons Resins ships fast.

Nice work. Love those early sixty modifies…

Thanks, I love early modifieds too and have plans to build a Bill Wimble coupe and then one of Buzzie Reutimann's cars. I'm still looking for an earlier type of tire- the "pie crust" type, but I've only seen them as slicks for asphalt use. Any ideas?

Actually, I just found what I was looking for at Mike's Decals, don't know how I missed them before!

I have used the D-6 & the D-13 from mikes decals.
I like the narrow D-13 for the early modifies. In my area
The cars were transitioning from the narrow tires to the
Wider tires (late 50’s - early 60’s)…

Thanks! I just order a couple of those as well as a few D-11 and D-42, should have enough for the next couple of builds.

My latest (37 Ford) modified that I'll be posting in a few days on the modified
forum. I used the tires that came wit the Revell 30 Ford Model A kit. Look almost period correct & don't have to be painted. Try not to let anything go to waste. Models are to expensive these days.
I must hold the unofficial record for posting Modifies on the forum. Fifty plus
sense the outbreak of Covid-19 !!! Most are cars I actually saw race or at least raced on my "home" track,

That's not a bad looking tire, Can't wait to see the rest of the model. I hear you about the price of kits, I'm normally an aircraft modeler and just recently got into doing 1/25 cars and I'm shocked at the prices, even for old kits.

Thanks,
I’ve sure posted lots of them. Probably more meaningful to me because they
Are Based on cars I was vey familiar with. But glad others like to check them out.
Most of those models have been done for others. Only about 1/2 dozen of them for my collection…

A model like this has 3 ways it will look finished
1. kind of rough done by a beginner. Who is still proud of it and will get better.
2. intermediate Most Fall here builder is better and has a very nice build also very proud of it. Most look to get better. Not all do some put it on the shelf.
3. advanced builder's the best work is here these builders are the ones that build the best modelers the work is often breathtaking the models we see and wish we could build that way but most like me are happy with a nice shelf model, if you want to become a better builder look at these models and try to copy there work send the builder an email ask in a polite way for help.
This is a great model built by a master builder, another in a long line of work.

Danh4, Great looking build. One of the cleanest and most undented Lazzaro cars I think I've ever seen. Lol.

Thanks! I know what you mean, the real thing probably wasn't this clean the first day it rolled out of the shop.
