i got a Salvino modified and since the only driver that is produced in any way shape or form that i know is Ryan Newman. got my sheets yesterday and had done some research on photos, i thought it would be camel yellow from what i saw. however, the sheet says bright yellow.

here are pics of the real car, the top one is from Mike's website and the second one is from the net

then this is the one that Clay Kemp built and posted online

quite a bit of difference there, even given the "photo taken in the sun" variation.

opinions?

You can find the answers to your question in the opening text of my post…

The key words you should look for are “got my sheets yesterday” and “Mike’s”

And I always thought A MODIFIED was a 1936 Ford with the front fenders torn off. Or even a Pinto body : Kinda - Sorta ... Rolling Eyes
I hope the teams that feel the need for portable air lifts in the pits -- Are NOT complaining about THE COST OF RACING !!!

I'd be leaning towards a Pennzoil yellow myself.

My opinion.

I think I don't envy you.. I was going to make this scheme the modified I built, but luckily I found that someone is doing Justin Bonsignore's car so I prefer to do that one!

The top picture makes it look like a muckier yellow, and the second a little brighter.

I'd love to see what you come up with!

I'm pretty sure that Camel Yellow is the right call. All the pics I've seen of that car look like the top two pics.

Same here as far as the pics i have seen too. Even though the build sheet from Mike’s says “bright yellow” that doesn’t seem right. I may spoon test Tamiya chrome yellow (Pennzoil) over red primer and see how that looks. From what i understand that is how Morgan McClure got their camel yellow-ish color for the Kodak cars.

I agree it does look more like camel yellow in the 1:1 car photos, but I doubt Clay Kemp would be lax in his research, same for Mike for that matter. Just my unsolicited opinion. Either way, looks very nice to me.

You are probably right, that it should be a little more chrome yellow. For whatever reason that car has had several shades of yellow on it. From a chrome yellow like your picture, all the way to like a creamy pale yellow. I had some of the Tamiya lacquer jar yellow I wanted to try out, so that's what I went with.

And my pictures make it appear brighter and more vivid than it is in person. TS-47 spray would probably be a good choice.

thanks for chiming in, Clay. i did a spoon test with Tamiya chrome yellow over Tamiya red primer, looks close to the internet pics i located. gonna compare it to the camel yellow from my Kodak build and see how much of a difference there is.

I'd build one if I knew where to buy one.

Actually from the research I've done looking for images of the car, the Newman car color looks like the old Kodak yellow (School Bus yellow) which is available through Duplicolor. It has the bit of red/orange tint that the Kodak yellow had. I still have some left from some Kodak cars I'm working on, so I'll probably use that when I get around to doing it.

The bright yellow in the instructions seems too bright to me.
