Question
Why did we see contingency's decals all over the front of the cars, up around the front tires a while back and now there's hardly any?
Thanks |

It has to do with the charter system in NASCAR. When charters became a thing it changed the purse structure and payouts for finishes. The contingency package went away so they stopped running the stickers for the various companies and brands. I don't recall the specifics of how the payouts work now but the introduction of charters a few years ago killed them. |

Ok so if I am using K/N air filters and win the race I would get a little more money that the guy that comes in 5th who is using K/N filters would?
I like seeing all the contingency on the car.
Thanks |

It didn't matter what products the car actually used. A company would come up with something to award to drivers, like the hard charger of the race, or something else catchy like that. To be eligible for the prize money, a driver had to run the sticker on their car during the race. |

Occasionally teams would decide to not run some of them. Barney Visser, owner of the #78 Furniture Row team, refused to run them because they weren't being paid to simply have the stickers on the car and he didn't want to give out free advertising to them. |

Yes and no, the contingency program didnt fully go away, its just is very small now and mostly done via social media ( Busch Pole, American Ethanol Green Flag Restart Award,Sunoco Rookie of the Race) . One of the reasons the change was NASCAR turned over ownership of that part of the race car to the RTA and the teams so they could have more room sponsors.
Which is kind of funny because for the new car, NASCAR took it back for the number.
There were a lot of factors in the decline of the contingency program. |

I have plans for a #24 Byron City Chevrolet: Salvino's Next Gen Camaro, Powerslide decals, and full '90s contingencies. I miss NASCARs being covered in stickers. |

Me too!
The one thing it did was help cover up paint flubs! |

I like it. If I ever end up making decals for one of these models, I won't have to do all those small contingencies. Only trouble is the wrap type graphics are even worse than making contingencies. |
