Finished on July 18th, 2022
My first build of the Salvinos Pontiac LeMans, the car J.D. McDuffie drove in 1982. I actually got the body and chassis all built back in 2020, but the decals I had planned to use disintegrated in water, so it sat for almost 2 years, until I finally ordered a replacement set from Powerslide. Literally all I had to do to finish it was apply the decals and glue in the hood pins!
Surprisingly, reference photos showed that McDuffie painted his wheel hubs black, which is highly unusual. Most are left bare metal which I traditionally replicate with a silver Sharpie, but this is actually how his car looked.
I did modify the shape of the window net to more accurately portray how it looked on the car. Paint is Tamiya Pure White directly onto white plastic.

Super nice build! I was a huge JD McDuffie fan. Knew that he wasn't going to win, but always hoped for a good finish. If you haven't already done so, I highly recommend reading Brock Beard's book titled simply JD. _________________ "Many men fish all their lives without knowing it is not the fish they are after." As I recall, that was actually the same car Benny Parsons ran the 1st official 200 MPH NASCAR qualifying lap with, at Talladega in 1982. It was later wrecked, then rebuilt and sold to J.D. McDuffie. This would explain the correctly modeled Ranier Racing Red interior. Well done. |
