Anyone else get the e-mail from Salvino's announcing the release of their white #11 Petty Enterprises Charger, driven by "Bobby Allison"? Got a chuckle out of that one! |

I saw that as well I am no expert but if I remember correctly this is the era when Allison and Petty were tearing each other up trying to beat the other one, and a lot of strong emotions where involved... i could see Petty trying to buy a car and fire Allison but not put him in one. I may be totally wrong on all this I am sure someone here can clear up all the confusion for me. |

You guys get emails from them? I'm in the builders club and I don't think I've ever received an email telling me what the next kit is. I have to check the website to find out what they are sending me each month. |

I'm NOT in the Builder's club, so I'm not sure why I get e-mails.
Buddy Baker drove the white team car for the Pettys in 1971. Won the 1971 Rebel 400 and the World 600 (car was red by now) for them in 1972. |

MPC did produce Charger kits with the 71-72 FLAT hood. Included in both the Baker #11 and the early Petty kits.
It was replaced with the power bulge hood which was then included in all Petty kits made from then on.
So I guess the flat hood is more rare in the MPC kits. |

But is it so rare now that they are producing it? That was kinda my point. _________________ ON DECK/IN THE WORKS: too many started to list...

The flat hood is a small selling point to me.....I have one of the MPC flat hood so IF I bought one of the new kits, that's why. |

Should be available free to anyone who bought a kit with the wrong one. |

I think you can chalk it up to the sender of email not being an early 70's Nascar enthusiest, like most of us on here. No biggie, we are a proud minority. |

They also have a contract with Petty & Dodge to do so many kits.
(Same goes with Hendrick and Chevy.)
The "Bobby Allison" just may be a Typo.

Bobby Allison did drive a 71 dodge in 71. He started out running a 70 Charger ("plain jane" Charger) #12 out of his own shops at the 71 Daytona 500, and by the 71 Rebel 500 was running a 71 Charger, (Maybe the 70 re-skinned). After he went with Holman-Moody driving the 69 Merc, he maintained the 71 for Marty Robbins to drive, and borrowed this car back to drive when he won the summer Riverside race with it, #12 in Marty's colors. There are a couple of pics of this car winning at Riverside. |
