As a continuation to my well documented struggle with the colour blue. Does any one have a suggestion for the blue on the Bailey Excavating Lemans JD drove? Tamiya spray preferred, I am a few months away from being able to airbrush again. |

I used Tamiya Metallic Blue over their Gold on my Bailey Excavating Monte Carlo. It came out great. |

I just double checked. I used TS-21 Gold and TS-19 Metallic Blue. |

I have been looking at pictures of JD's cars on the internet and looking at paint colors. The way his car looks in pictures varies widely depending on the lighting.
I also scoured the MCW website and after looking at pictures of cars painted these colors I might be getting closer
7002 MULSANNE BLUE MET
6500 NASSAU BLUE MET.
6203 NASSAU BLUE MET.
The two nassau blues are different formulas.
It seems reasonable to think he might have used GM paint colors.
I never saw him race, he passed the year before I really started to pay attention to Cup racing, but learning his story has inspired me to build some of his cars. |

If you're interested in knowing more about John Delphus McDuffie, there is a biography : J.D. - The Life & Death of a Forgotten NASCAR Legend, authored by Brock Beard. I bought my copy from Coastal 181. It is an informative, yet sad look at a man who persevered through great adversity to race in the sport he loved. R.I.P. -- J.D. |

Just to follow up
I placed an order with MCW. After looking at the pictures I could find of J.D.'s blue cars, I could not reliably determine if the color was metallic.
So I also ordered a bottle of 7004 Medium Blue, in addition to the Mulsanne blue.
The 7004 is not metallic.
And I started reading his biography, thanks for recommending it, it is a great read so far. |

I just got the Powerslide JD McDuffie Le Mans sheet. According to the reference sheet the chassis is red. Is this correct? |

That is entirely possible, as J.D. bought his Lemans from Ranier Racing; several of their cars had red chassis & interiors. I recall J.D.'s LeMans was the same car Benny Parsons ran his 200 MPH lap with earlier in the 1982 season. |

I always thought the blue was Ford Acapulco Blue like the Pearson cars. The blue dates at least back to the '70 Cyclone Spoiler II and maybe even back to the Buick in '69. There were so many different factory medium metallic blues in the late '60s that it's tough to pick one. TS-19 is indeed a good spray can match for Acapulco Blue. |
