I believe hemiman was referring to the 1977 Monte Carlo that Junior Johnson provided for Darrell Waltirp's 1st race with the team ??? Well, Salvinos has already produced the 1977 Monte Carlo that Bobby Allison drove ( and WON with ) in the same race !
While NASCAR encouraged the teams to run the new downsized cars at Riverside in January, 1981, they also allowed the older 115" wb cars to compete at a track that was notoriously hard on equipment. Why risk a new car on a road course when the old cars were still legal, and basically a throwaway after the race ? |
