|
|
2 of Cale's Monte Carlos
The Kar-Kare is OOB Salvinos with a few of the body fixes demonstrated by fellow modelers (thanks Adam, Firefly and others).
I widened the chassis to fill the gap to the rocker panels...after I straightened the twisted body
Chopped end of exhaust dumps and replaced with 4mm evergreen tubes, thinned at the end with my utility knife
Brush painted Vallejo color coats with brushed Future clear
Bumpers: Tamiya Smoke to add depth, Future with a bit of Tamiya flat base to make them look a bit weathered
Metal finish parts like exhaust: 1 part 2 part mix of Tamiya flat all and flat gray, vallejo washes and Tamiya weathering pastes heat stress or sooted looks.
The Holly Farms is a Salvino body on GM Monogram chassis (Salvinogram)
I wanted a visually "shortened" wheelbase by opening front wheel opening more to the rear and opposite for the rear.
Monogram chassis lengthened by 1.5 mm
Roll cage height reduced by 2 mm
Stock rear ride height, front lowered about 1.5 mm
Monogram engine with shortened Salvinos headers
Chrome kept on Monogram wheels but added Tamiya smoke, Vallejo washes and Future with Tamiya flat base coatings
Window nets for both cars made from door screening and tape (thanks BW)
Thanks for watching. I am new to the hobby and look forward to your comments and advice

Pierre - great work. especially as noted on the brush painted bodies.
On those chassis - just irks me that Salvinos can't properly set up the mold. Those ejector pin marks don't have to be there. Their mold tech isn't doing his job. Replace the springs or use the right pressures or both! Twisted bodies are should not exist either. Water temp to high or the mold is opening way to soon.
Not high-jacking intentionally - your work is outstanding. |

Those are both really well done, but I'm really partial to the Monogram chassis. I keep looking at your work and am amazed that they're brush painted!

Thank you for the feedback gentlemen.
I appreciate that Salvino, a new company is giving it a go in a tough market with the Olds 442 and Monte Carlo.
I wanted to do an OOB build first and go from there after.
My experience reflected comments from others with the body issues, underwhelming chassis, way to big engine without dry sump, the chrome, etc.
For the second build, I was already set on a Monogram chassis and engine after doing it before with a MPC Laguna and inspiration from Tom's awesome Hawaiian Tropic MC.
For sure it was a lot of work but I enjoy the challenge.
The OOB is a shelf model, The Salvinogram is a better replica of the real thing.
Thinking that with Salvino now owning the Monogram tooling they should consider the opportunities...
For those interested with brush painting please go see the thread I started in the nascar modeling discussion named The Brushpainters Society.
It's about sharing ideas on brush painting. For sure I'm not the only one out there doing it that way. _________________ "When you arrive at a fork in the road, take it" - Yogi Berra |

Pierre, you did a beautiful job on both! I can't believe they are brush painted!
As far as the debate goes, all I can say is: look at the chassis pictures, they speak volumes!

Awesome job on both, Pierre. You know from our discussions that you have won me over to this brush painting process and I will be doing it on my next build. Thank you for the thread on the society and I hope you will accept my application for membership. |

Merci beaucoup!
I will keep updating the Brushpainters Society thread as I work on a new project.
It think brush painting offers possibilities but I need to keep working on improving it.
Look forward to see results from Mark and perhaps others as well. This will be a team effort! _________________ "When you arrive at a fork in the road, take it" - Yogi Berra |

I agree , Pierre. The more , the better. Cant wait to get started, but my current build still has a lot of days left in it, and I never start a new build till the old one is finished. Not a multitasker. |

I already have ideas on contributing on some brush testing. I paint (art) on canvas and have acquired some really good synthetic brushes now on the market, and I think they might be good for model painting. _________________ Bill Jobson is my real name. |
