Second question of the day,

I just purchased a Molotow spray can. Couple of questions:
Does it look as good as the pens?
Do you need to paint it over gloss black?
Do you need to clear coat it to keep it from rubbing off like Alclad?

Any other tips would be appreciated. I have a few bumpers I would like to chrome. Thanks, Don

I've gone through a 600 ml can and half way through 2nd.
I spray it over anything even bare plastic.
Lots tougher than pens looks about the same.
I clear the whole model with Future when done but not a NEED....
Do note that nozzle makes a difference. The guy I buy from has 10 nozzles......which one is best I can't say......he just sends me a bag of them.

I got my order in and tried it last night. I am disappointed. I sprayed some on a spoon and was found it came out the texture and look of testors metalizer aluminum. Note I used the nozzle that came with it.

Perhaps you can do a tutorial...…

I can get regular nozzles at the local auto paint store.

As I said.....my first effort was poor. Order the nozzle pack per Bombing. Tried 3-4 different ones....got one that works. Which one is it??? I have no idea...Bombing does not label nozzles....just 10 different in a bag. Sorry....all I know.

of your nozzle on the can.

Maybe post it or email it to me? Maybe with a cell phone and text it to me.

Went to the bomber science site. There are a ton of tips available.

Thanks.

Just used mine today for the first time on some small parts and man it went everywhere. Definitely will need to try a different nozzle. Finish appeared okay. Will double check it tomorrow.

Well, I shot off an email to bomber science about tips. They hadn't answered so I took a tip off another can of paint I had gotten at the auto paint store. Put it on my bomber science can of chrome. Went to the booth to shoot a spoon.

Well, it came out in a stream like I was taking a leak but with the force of a fire hose. The stream bounced off the spoon, back at me spraying me with the paint covering my shirt and hands. I panicked and dropped the spoon before I could release the nozzle. Now I sprayed a the back of my paint booth with a 12 inch puddle of the chrome.

Well the puddle dried into a great chrome finish. However, the splashed stuff again turned out an aluminum finish.

Once I hear from Bomber Science, I guess I'll be ordering a package of the misc tips. So much for my t shirt, it was old though. Took me 30 minutes to clean off my hands and arms though and I was wearing gloves!

Try decanting into a glass jar. Then stir it a few minutes to get the aerosol boiled out enough to spray through an airbrush. Guys on youtube are doing it with great results.

Did anyone ever figure out the best nozzle to use with this stuff? I sent them an email, but never got a response. Also, if you use it in an airbrush what do you use to clean the brush once you’re done?

I've tried multiple nozzles and various application techniques. The best finish Ive achieved is very similar to the way the top of the can looks, a polished aluminum look is what I'd call it- I find the Alclad and Spaztix sprays look more chrome like.
I saw this version posted on a FB forums page the other day but have not seen/tried it in person in order to compare. https://www.metrohobbies.com.au/products/molotow-416-chrome-effect-acrylic-spray-400ml?fbclid=IwAR3uEDx-stzcVDJNrU6QM5Y9RTF-F0f3vXucsCmTMWIsynDcyestHZmd0uQ

That ;ink says in store only!!!!! no shipping.

All I can say is I ordered the bag of 10 spray tips. I tried until one did what I want.....I asked Bombing which is which....no reply.
Can't give more info than that......trial and error.

[quote="DaveVan"]That link says in store only!!!!! no shipping.

Yeah, not sure if it may be because of lock downs or because its a spray paint or ??? I sent them a note to ask if they'll be able to ship it at some point or if not if their supplier may be able to recommend a US source, am awaiting a reply- If so and I can get some I'll post pics of the results but for now I'm going to stick with the Alclad and Spaztix sprays for "chrome" as I get better results with it, but as the saying goes, "your mileage may vary" ;^).

I just did a valve cover on the 1/16 Jungle Jim I'm working on with the Molotow. Super easy, squeezed it right out of the bottle into the airbrush. Sprayed a light coat, waited a minute, sprayed a heavy coat and it came out amazing! I'll post a picture tomorrow
