What method do you use for the windows on your NASCAR builds?

For years I have painted the inside of the glass for a neater/cleaner look. It makes putting the in the body a little tougher though.

Many people, myself included, use Sharpies.

On my current build, I painted the inside of the window. My method was to coat the window in Future, wait a day for it to dry, then place masking tape over the entire window. To cut the masking tape, I used a brand new blade and cut with very light pressure. I brushed on Tamiya acrylic flat black pretty heavily, then went back and gave it a second coat to make sure there were no thin spots. After I was done and the paint had a couple days to dry, I put another coat of Future over it to help seal and protect it. I liked this method since the acrylic paint was easy to wipe off if I made a mistake, and the lines came out nice and sharp.

Thanks. One thing I forgot to mention... if you get a little bleed through the masking, you can usually fix it pretty easily. Once the paint dries, just take a toothpick and use it to chip off the excess paint, and it'll still look nice and clean.

Thin masking tape and brush the out side with flat black acryl. Labor intensive but I have never had much luck with sharpies. also if you make a mistake the acryl come off with a tooth pick. then just future when you do the rest of the car.

Does the Future clearcoat really shine that well? I've never done it and didn't think it looked that well although I've only seen it in pics.

I painted the inside of my windows, not the outside, but I did clear everything with Future to protect the paint and to help make the window more transparent and shiny. It definitely gives a good shine. Check out this picture of the side of the window I did paint. The paint here is flat black, but it looks very glossy thanks to the Future.

If you havent got the money or safety equipment to do that 2 part clear stuff, that looks out of this world, then future does a great job in my book. And I brush mine on to make it even simpler. just use a wide not stiff brush and barely overlap each pass. It levels out just like you had shot it with an air brush. Very smooth and glossy. Just dont try to go back and touch it up before it drys . You will have a big mess to deal with. Also when its drying it may fog a little where you got it a little thick. dont worry about it the fog goes away when it drys. Also its not called future any more. Now its called Pledge floor care or something like that. I think i have a picture.

I use Sharphies, or I will mask the inside and airbrush, it just all depends on how much I work I want to do.

Why love the new NASCAR kits, pre painted windows.

When you paint the inside of the windows, what is your process for gluing them into the body?

Used to spend lots of time masking/painting until I found sharpies. They did require a couple coats but I really liked the speed/ease.

I am using Testors enamel paint marker in flat black. As long as the window has the raised ridge, it is pretty easy to keep it clean. Usually required a little touch up second coat. Like the richness of color the paint provides.[/img]

The only issue I have with sharpies is it pulls the first pass off?

I tried that "Shoo-Goo", a couple of small dabs in the corners and it seems to work fine, dries clear as well.

I use BSI clear 5 minute epoxy. Does not harm the paint.
