Well you haven't lost your touch. It just kills me where you guys are getting these 58 ford bodies.

The body is a resin cast. I never was able to find a complete model kit for this year of car. I bought it a few years ago and don't remember the site I purchased it from

WOW ! ! !

VERY nice build!!

IMO I still think AMT; MPC; Revell and Monogram missed out on not doing this year Ford in a full detail kit........

Great job. Ive always wanted to do a 58 ford but the price of resin and the prep always scares me away. Hoping AMT or Revell would bring it back if it ever was done in the past as a kit.

It was nice to be scrolling thru some topics and bump into one with personal meaning. In 1958 My Dad and Uncle were building Chevys for Buck Baker and they had this old shop above a liquor store. It was a 2nd story shop and there was an external ramp they would drive up to enter or to exit. It was fairly tight getting a round in the shop. I remember looking down at that old floor ( it was old then ) the boards looked about 10-12" wide and probably 4" thick but they looked 2" thick. ( and none of that has anything to do with my post, really ) Shorty Rollins was a friend of theirs and from time to time he would bring his race car in and work on it a few days and then he's be gone. I talked with him just a little bit and don't remember anything in particular that he said. What I do remember about him was that he had to wear a woman's girdle because of a racing accident he had been in. And, I remember standing there when he asked, begged, the other guys to say Nothing about it to anyone. How they all knew he wore it, I never asked. My mom thought it was funny as heck. So, I did actually touch the real car that you have depicted here . Just looked in through the windows and under the hood, etc. I didn't know what I was looking at under the hood except the carburetor, air filter, belts, hoses, etc. I was a kid and I was a sponge. When any of the guys were talking about race cars I was glued to conversation. Funny, I also remember looking inside the T-Bird that Tom Pistone drove. Someone asked me if I wanted to sit in it and well duh ! So I climbed in, with the help of my brother. I was a race car driver for a few moments. ------------ The above is 100% truth. No kidding.

Mike
Would that have been the building on South Church almost across from where the Ford Dealership was located?

Thanks for adding a little history to my build. I just knew he was from Corpus Christi Texas. I found my reference photos in a Life magazine that was written in Spanish.

Your eyes are fine! '58 got a revised front with double headlamps, and wide taillights. Fins carried over.

It’s interesting that the model companies have made ‘58 Chevy kits down through the years, but ‘58 Ford kits are extremely rare. In fact I doubt they were made in anything but annuals. But, in real life the ‘58 Ford outsold the ‘58 Chevy.
