I really like this car and would like it to be one of the first Chevelle's I do, along with the Allison brothers. So, the standard questions: Proper colors inside and out. Are there available decals?

There was a set made back mid 1990's that was OK....it was on a sheet with #11 and #12 decals. |

Outside was Daytona Yellow I think, with the inserts painted over the yellow with just a heavy gold pearl with a TINY bit of lime green added. A couple of coats of the new Tamiya Pearl Yellow over the base yellow would be extremely close. |

Thank you Dave. And thank you Tom. Pearl paints in that era tended to show up flat. This one has a nice shine to it so I suspected a dusting of metallic gold or maybe just a little gold in a clear coat. This should be a fun paint job to try and duplicate. _________________ "Dude, it's not Camelot... it's only a model." "Details man, I need details!!" |

Well I saw it in person and had a former crew member ask the guy who painted it how it was done a few years ago, so...
Lennie's cars were always turned out like show cars.

This was recently posted on FB. I thought it looked like a pretty good quality scan, thogh maybe a tad dark. Do the colors seem as you remember?

A lot of times it would depend on the lighting, and how the paint was mixed and shot for the panels. The paint breaks varied a lot too, they had one car and they raced out of a one car garage, it was a thrash to get the car ready every week. There's more contrast than I remember in that photo. |

Tom, Imma take your word and that's how I'll paint it. I can't wait to see how it comes out. Won't be the Laguna, at least the first one. I want to do the straight '73 Chevelle first to use the new parts on. _________________ "Dude, it's not Camelot... it's only a model." "Details man, I need details!!" |

The reds in the STP & Holley decals, on the Winston Cup decal and the light blue stripes on Lennie's firesuit tells me the colors are good. |

And do you think Testors clear pearl over gold will work? _________________ "Dude, it's not Camelot... it's only a model." "Details man, I need details!!" |

Found the Daytona Yellow in MM by Testor's. Pretty sure I can make the decals, there's no white to them.
Anyone know what color she was inside? _________________ "Dude, it's not Camelot... it's only a model." "Details man, I need details!!" |

I did this custom diecast about 5 years ago. My computer crashed with no back up or I would email you the decals I made for this one. The color is custom mix.

A 1990's AMT Chevy/Pontiac/Olds may work better...... |

That may be the way to go. Both Monogram chassis are too wide. I'm betting the AMT kit would likely have a better wheel base. thanks for the tip.
This is going to work out really well paint wise. I just scored another throwback, a 1976 Porsche Carrera RS. I'm thinking when the Lennie Pond car is done, a pearl Porsche comes next. _________________ "Dude, it's not Camelot... it's only a model." "Details man, I need details!!" |

Mike/Yellowsportwagon on MCM forum uses the AMT chassis under all his 70's era builds....I have too. You use two chassis and cut them so you get the right WB. |

I'm hoping to use this to make my own set. (Wish me LOTSA luck!) _________________ "Dude, it's not Camelot... it's only a model." "Details man, I need details!!" |

Blue Ridge did a sheet that had the numbers and all the sponsor text for Lennie's car, no striping (or the cardinal!) was included.

A friend of mine who was one of or the only painter for Lennie told me the interiors on the Master Chevrolet cars were good old fashioned “trunk splatter paint!” My friend who now works for a local body shop is one of the most sought after restoration painters in town! Gooche has those kit decals available, search my question in NASCAR Modeling Discussion 12 lines down about Gooche decals, send him an email to the one listed, he’s very busy with his full time job but will respond and seems SUPER nice! Hope this helps! |
