|
|
As a quarantine treat, I bought the gold plated 50th Anniversary Monte Carlo and R/R kits to make DW’s chrome car from 1997.
20+ years ago someone shared their technique for removing the gold tint and exposing the chrome below. I did it back in the day and it was quick and easy as I recall... Does anybody remember that trick? I want to say it may have been non-acetone nail polish remover, but I really can’t say for sure. |

Thanks! I’ll give that a try when the kit gets here. |

You likely know but, I'm going to put the thought up front in your brain... try it on some sprue first. IIRC, that kit has a tree or two of gold parts as well yes? Plenty to practice on. Cheers. _________________ "Dude, it's not Camelot... it's only a model." "Details man, I need details!!" |

I believe only the body and hood are plated. Fortunately that era Monte Carlo comes with tabs on the hood and side skirts that should provide a sufficient test area.
Also, I’ll need to paint the orange stripe that runs along the lower part of the body. That will cover any test area should I need more than the tabs provide.
That is great advice though, and it only comes from experience I suppose lol! |

Well, like I always say, "Don't ask me how I know, just be happy the research has been done." _________________ "Dude, it's not Camelot... it's only a model." "Details man, I need details!!" |
