I am nearing the end of a Rusty Kodiak build. I flowed a little black of paint into the edges of the headlight pocket. Then laid a piece of black decal in one side, a piece of grille decal in the other. Looks respectable from viewing distance. |

I have yet to start on mine but, I planned a Petty car which had black light sockets most of the time. These will be a booger to paint due to the surrounding bodywork and the very shape of them.
Aside from a decal or Bare Metal Foil cut to size and placed, if you want paint, here's what I'd do. If you wish to paint the body color then the sockets, set the nose on your workbench so it's level and hit it with a wash until the desired effect is achieved. This is easiest and can be done before or after painting the body. Or, spray the sockets (insert color here) and mask them for the body paint. It will be much easier to cut a masking tape to fit the socket plate, than it would to mask the body around them due to the undercuts of the socket. _________________ "Dude, it's not Camelot... it's only a model." 18, from what i see looking at the actual car compared to the monte carlo head light buckets is that they were not painted the same. the pontiacs were not totaly blacked out, just the back plate was. the sides and bottom were body color. all you need to do is paint the rectangular insert black and glue it into the bucket.

There is no rectangular insert, thus the problem. _________________ ON DECK/IN THE WORKS: too many started to list...

This works great.
I've included the headlight covers on my 2+2 decal sheets. |

Since I don’t have any Monte Carlo headlight inserts sitting around, may just cut some styrene strip and paint it and use that. _________________ ON DECK/IN THE WORKS: too many started to list...

The answer has been under my nose all along...
Along the same lines, i sent a message to Mike about then possibility of a 1980/90s goodie sheet. He said that this has been on his radar for a while now and will reach out to modelers (on here?) to see what we want included. I told him 1987/88 Tbird grilles and headlight covers (in black and steel), 2+2 headlight covers, 1989-93 Tbird grilles, etc. Hope that gets done sometime soon. _________________ ON DECK/IN THE WORKS: too many started to list...

I discussed that possibility with him as well a few years back. I would love to see some Lumina grilles. |
