Wondering just what the title says, can I use oven cleaner to strip a die-cast body? Don't normally do die-cast stuff, got a couple commission jobs to do, tho. Thanks for any advice!

You can, however it can pit the body. I usually place a diecast in a plastic container not much bigger than the car. (I do this a lot on hot wheels type cars to make slot racing masters) Cover it in cleaner and seal the lid. You'll want to go back in about 12 hours and take the first couple layers of paint off. You'll have to douse it again and now, let it sit about 6 hours to get the rest off.

As an aside, when it comes to diecasts, I've found you get a much cleaner... cleaning, if you use aircraft stripper on diecasts. It's a little caustic to work with but, it will have the car stripped cleanly in a little more time than it takes Easy Off to strip chrome. Just wear rubber gloves and eye protection.

I use orange stripper from Ace hardware. I spray it heavily and let it sit outside. After 2 days I go and recoat it heavily again. By this time it's mostly all off and I use an old toothbrush to scrape what's left. I do a bunch of die cast and this has always worked for me.

I can vouch for aircraft stripper, it really does wonders to die-cast models and... pretty much anything metallic you want to take the paint off of.

I've used Zipstrip on my die-cast for years and never had had an issue.
